NO,,you are comparing apples and oranges. A gasser can come close but they are different birds. I would watch some gassers fly at fun flys etc and decide if this type of bird is for you. Why are you attracted to gassers? Spectra from Min Air and Predator are popular birds for 3D but thet are different in performance from a nitro. I own a min air 1005 and a 50 nitro. Very different in performance but equally pleasing. Actually the gasser pleases me more in many ways. It is smoother and more gracefull in flight. Not hyper like my Hyper 50!
It is heavier and requires a different style to expoite the strengths of the gasser heli. The traits of a gasser heli are wonderfull, they have grace and enertia because of the heavier weight. Beautfull to watch in capable hands. But if you want slam bam thankyou mam style ,it can't compare to a nitro.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

less pain in the gas

i like the size of gasser helis and also the lack of support equipment. When i went to flying 50cc planes, it was so much easier to just fuel up and go. Would like a machine what could handle tailslides, rainbows, possibly tic tocs, inverted. dosent have to be too crazy, just capable.

thanks

The Predator is plenty capable of what you are looking for. Great heli. They'll do the same things as a nitro heli, they just don't start and stop and change directions as quickly because they have more inertia.

Seems the most popular 3D gsser heli's are the Predator and the Min Air Spectra. I have an older Min Air 1005 gasser that i bought used and it will hold it's own in 3D also.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

agree

I would recommend to look at the blacksheep video and or Ircha of gassers so you can see what they can do and how hard they can fly.

Check my amateur video under youtube, and search "Maxum SE". I'm a proud owner of Maxum with a 30.5cc engine it really fly like a nitro.... With the hands of a 3D master i bet this Heli is the best...

In my mind

It comes down to "Quality, Performance and Price".

With that in mind I believe the Spectra-g is the best 3D helicopter out there. Parts fit each other like a glove, performance is linked to control system and weight, which the Spectra has CCPM for precise control and is one of the lightest 3D gassers out there, and price is very comparible with other gas helicopters in its class.

i have had three gassers a century pred a x cell spectra g and a vario acrobat and they really are not the best choice if your into 3d.they are very expensive to buy and you need top gear in them weight is the issue.they are not really a bolt together kit they are a builders heli with dial indicating on the fan etc.
also depends on how much flying you do if your flying alot it might pay but only if you dont crash much.also for me i havint got time for maintenance i got two small kids and also the smell of petrol in the house.i now fly a trex 600n super pro it was half the money of the spectra base kit half the build time and flys better.i fly once a week for 5 tanks and the nitro is more plug and play were the gassers often needs fiddling with rather then flying.it depends on the person what they like. this is just my point of view and others will disagree this is just what i found. i like to fly hard 3d.

Most DEFINATELY depends on your flying style and what you like best.

For me gassers are the best way, with over 2300 flights logged since 1997 I definately chose the right model for me as I would have spent over 750 gallons of 30% coolpower to fly throughout the years! Instead I used up about 150 gallons of gas, so you can imagine the operating cost difference.

Honestly the gassers for me have not been a "nightmare" on the contrary pure pleasure to fly them and really I've just needed to keep up with minor maintenance to keep them in the air. If you are saavy and on top of things, you'll find that gassers are easy to maintain and fly.

yup, thanks xcellgasman101

I think with the hands of an expert a gasser heli like mine with a 30.5cc engine can do hard 3d.... With my experience i think the power of my gasser heli is somewhere in the middle of 50 size and 90 size nitro heli....

What about the ASI Mongoose? They look like quite nice helis too. I don't have any yet, but am about ready to get my first one.
I was going to go with a Predator myself until I saw the Mongoose, now I'm not too sure anymore.

All I have right now is a Raptor v2 .50.

Thanks,
David

If you want to get into aerobatics, I don't thing the mongoose is the best choice. They are nice looking helis, but they are heavy.

I am also looking for my first gasser. After all of the helis that I've owned I would like the gasser to be an X-Cell.

Even in planks I prefer the gas....Cheaper to operate, smoother in the air, gobs of power and LACK of field gear is awesome!

There's no doubt that the MA gassers are nice, and fly great. I'm flying the QWW OD 26 and it flys great also. Like I said, MA stuff is nice, but a little pricey for me.

At this point I'm just doing clumsy forward flight with left/right turns at each end.
And I'm getting fairly good at side-in hovering both sides. Nose in still scares me and I haven't attempted it yet.
I'm going at this old-school, I don't have a simulator. So I'm just being really careful.

So the fact that it isn't the best 3D option is okay with me.

It's pretty anyway, and I'm more likely to get into a combination of just sport flying and AP/AV.

Thanks,
David

I get bored with the sim personally. I would probably be a much better pilot if I bought one and really made myself practice. When I was learning, there weren't any sims... The majority of the time with todays helis, it boils down to what you like. The technology and parts quality is much better now than it was when I was in the beginning stages.
