I'm planning to power my receiver and servo's w/ a Lipo pack. I have 2 extra 14.4v 2200mAh Lipo sitting around. I just picked up a castle creation CC BEC rx battery eliminator. Hooked it up and works great. My question is: Do I need a battery monitor to monitor the lipo pack? I have an extra VoltWatch2 but it's 2 settings are 4.8v and 6.0v. The BEC is set at 5.1v by default. When I set it at 6.0v the led is glowing red. When I set it to 4.8v the led (strangely) is on the second green. Supposedly I can program the CC BEC but 1) I don't have the $24 castle link 2) I don't have a PC computer. currently using an Apple computer.

Question:

1: Do I need a battery monitor for a Lipo pack

2: why is it that at 5.1v the VoltWatch2 is on the 2nd or 3rd green when it's switch is on 4.8v?

3: Is their somthing different about Lipo packs v.s Nimh or Nicd where the VoltWatch2 acts differently?

4: off topic - voltwatch2 manual said one led lit at one time. well, when I move controls or the gyro acts, bunch of LED lights up at the same time. LED is more intense and solid at the Green and flickers rapidly and less intense towards the Red. Is that normal?

wow...that is a huge flight pack. i'm using a 3s 11.1 2100 on mine as well as the castle creations bec. i've had 79 flights with no problems, the cool thing is, i can burn a whole gallon on 1 charge

as far as monitoring my voltage, i just use one of my digital voltage meters from work.

If I'm not mistaken, VoltWatch only monitors Nicd and or Hydride batteries and not intended for LiPos or Lion batteries.

1. no...optional...however a voltmeter and log will give you an idea of how many flights you can get with one charge.
2. it was NOT designed for lipos
3. yes...voltages.
4. see 2 and 3.
