My Predator seems to be fine, (at the moment), with a 401/9254 combination. But the Hitec 6965 has me wondering if it's the better choice, especially since it will run at 6v. No too many tail servos run at this voltage.

Since were talking about the 6965, how many gyro's will run at 6v? Since I run a 6v system, I can see this as an opportunity to get rid of the regulator on my tail and run everything at 6v. Even though the 401/9254 is running fine, taking the regulator out of the picture could eliminate a possible failure point.

After doing a bit of research, the JR G770 3D Heli Gyro - G7703D
will run at 6v. Maybe the Hitec 6965 and the JR gyro would be a good combination to run straight off 2s2p A123's? Only about $30 more than the 401/9254 combo....

The 401 will run fine a 6V, it's only the tail servo's that have the voltage limitation requirement. I know there are guys that run the 9254 on a regulated 6V. The real issue with 4.8V only servo's is the 5 cell NiCD and NiMH packs which can peak over 7V off the charger.

Futaba's website states for the 401:
Voltage- use only with a 4.8V battery. (if you use it with a
higher voltage battery it needs to be regulated to 6V)
Usually anything quoted @ 6v is rated for 5 cells. You can get 5.6- 5.8v on a 4 cell system. I wish they were more clear on their specs. They need to specify 4 cell, 5 cell, total max voltage on fully charged batteries, etc.

So I can safely run my gyro off 7.2 max volts? I'm trying to get specifics so I might be able to get away from a regulator and run everything straight off my A123's.

How ironic, look what I found.....

http://www.acehobby.com/ace/ACE8071.htm

A .05 servo rated at 73.6 oz in and a MSRP of $22.99???

I wonder how this gyro/servo does in the real world???
