The F-35 Lightning II Program (also known as the Joint Strike Fighter Program)

Here: http://www.jsf.mil/

F-35 is a fighter jet.F stands for fighter.

It's cool and all but this is a helicopter forum. So what are you getting at exactly.

Both aircraft are VTOLs, so I think that because this is a heli forum were going to know all about it. Try the VTOL forum at http://www.rcgroups.com

will wash your heli for a quarter

The F-35 is not a VTOL it's actually a STOL(short take off and landing) aircraft.

I have seen test flight footage of the Marine version of the F-35 taking off verticaly in a hover. That would make it VTOL

Actually, the F-35B is STVOL, Short Takeoff/Vertical Landing.

Did you look at the video ?

If it can take off verticaly . . . . it's VTOL

I'm on AirwolfRC's ignore list, someone please tell him the F-35 is VTOL...... if it has no useful ammount of weapons onboard and is low on fuel, just like the Harrier......

In reality its STOVL

Try taking off vertically with a pair of GBU-31 or 32 JDAMs, a pair of AMRAAMs/AIM-9Xs, and a full fuel load in an F-35B and see how far you get.

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-35.htm

Note the F-35B is described as STOVL.

The video shows flight testing of X-35B at Edwards. F-35B hasn't flown yet. F-35B is officially STOVL not STOL nor VTOL. Vertical takeoff is impractical and will probably only be done during flight test over a hover pit, not in service. First flight is a few weeks away and will be a conventional takeoff and landing flight.

I've been corrected.

STOVL..... Yes

I still don't see how this has anything to do with heli's.

No matter, if it flies, it's COOL!!!

They must not be using ServoSynch. Did anyone else notice the lag between the left and right elevator halves?

Yes, it's running an automated self test run by the on board computer. Basically it is wiggling the sticks and making sure everything moves like it's supposed to.
