Ok, I went to put a new glow plug in my engine today and got the plug in wrong. And of course it stripped the cooling head hole pretty good. When I turn over the engine the glow plug just flops out Is it worth buying a tap and die set or should I just get a new head. I guess what Im asking is will it work to re tap it when it is that bad?

If you only have to bend over once to pick it up it's a good landing.

If you can find someone with a hela-coil (sp) set, you will be better off to have it redone. But if you have to buy set, it'll be cheaper to get a new head.

Hell... I can fix that.
Uh oh..
Nope.

You can't simply re-tap if its that bad so a HeliCoil insert is the only repair option- the glowplug thread is a somewhat unusual one (can't recall the specification off hand), so..

You might simply need to buy a new head. Not good news I know.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

stripped glow plug

RaptorMan23,
Mr. Clarence Lee will be able to rethread you head's glow plug for you. He does the heli-coil method.
He advertises his services in "Model Airplane News" magazine. With the prices listed for various size engines.

C.F.Lee Mfg. Co.
10112 Woodward Ave.
Sunland, CA. 91040
(818) 352-3766

He can also repair stripped exhaust pipe threads.
A lot cheaper than a new head.
I hope this is of some small help.
Regards

Try one of these

They are more expensive than helicoils but in most applications are MUCH BETTER!

Yeah, the 32 pitch is very fine. Maybe that's why its relatively easy to strip.

Send the head to Mr. Lee, and you're good to go.
