Well the 7C got here today and boy is it impressive ... man is it complicated. I know I won't have any troubles with setting it up but just playing with it without having read the manual is proving difficult. Here is a pic of the two

Here are th initial differences after holding it.
- The 7C is heavier.
- The chrome is only flat on the arches where the trim switches live. The rest is rough surface and that should help with the glare issues I have with the 6EX.
- There are a lot of switches!
- The sticks feel tighter in their movement and the springs are stiffer.
- The 6EX menu system is so much easier to follow.
- There is a nice red power light on the 7C.
- The 7C feels tighter and better built.
- The 7C is slightly smaller in most directions.

So far it feels nice but I will have to see how it is to setup before I can say I like it better than the 6EX.

I dropped it and it started acting weird. So I needed to send it back in to get it looked at and I did not want to go 2 weeks without a radio. So I upgraded I plan to sell it once it comes back from Futaba with their OK.

As a note my 6EX has worked flawlessly since the issues after the drop. So I am thinking that it was just a loose battery connection or something that is now not an issue. I will see what Futaba says.

Congrats Chris! That's one nice radio. Let us know how you like it. Contrasting it to the 6EX would also be quite interesting.

DUDE...I have serious issues.......I want so much stuff and not enough $$$$$$......I'm really eyeing the 7C2.4 too.....I'm very interested on your future review....subtrims and a timer are looking really sweet (yes you can get away without subtrim but it would make things easier)

congrats on the new purchase...definately keep us posted on the programming/performance.....and I'm assuming you can use the 6ch rx with the 7C???

Well here comes me initial thoughts of the 7C ... I hope to follow this by a more thorough review once I get some actual air time with it. So let me start by stating these 5 words

DAMN THIS THING IS COMPLICATED!

The 6EX is SO much simpler and straight forward. I am sure once I get used to the 7C it will be awesome but for the time being it is just a little too feature filled. Like

- it supports 5 swash types but finding where to change them took me 30 minutes.
- I can not figure out how work the timer. I am sure it is simple but it currently eludes me.
- when I enable th.hold it changes the pitch and I can't figure out how to stop that.

Ok so now that I have said that ... here is what I like so far ...

- the radio has a run time clock along with the timer. I suppose it is to be used to so you know how long between charges.
- I am loving the wheel! Adjusting the swash ele from +50% to -50% is so much easier than using the lever on the 6EX.
- the battery connects in inside the battery bay for easy swapping. Way better than the 6EX.

More to come ...

There is usally a seperate pitch range for throttle hold, just like the with stunt 1 or stunt2.

- the radio has a run time clock along with the timer. I suppose it is to be used to so you know how long between charges.

If this is the same as the DX7 the clock shows you how many minutes you have on the model. Or put more accurately, how many minutes the TX has been turned on with a specific model selcted. If you are dilegent about turning off the Tx when you are done flying, you can use help with scheduling service and determining how many minutes you've flown on that model in total. I find flight logging using a seperate method to be more useful, accurage and data rich.

- I am loving the wheel! Adjusting the swash ele from +50% to -50% is so much easier than using the lever on the 6EX.
I hear ya. I was my DX7 had a wheel.

Just a guess, my JR 9303 was doing the same, the throttle hold switch is linked to Stunt 2 so when you switch TH on it puts you in Stunt 2 curves. I don't use S2 (except by default when I go to TH) so I just made S12 curves the same as St1

Ok I got it figured out.

First the timer is easy once you read the instructions closely. Turns out you can enable it with pretty much any switch or control. I currently have it set up to start counting down when the ch3 is above 1/4 stick. To reset it you select it and press a button. It supposedly beeps every minute and then gets more aggressive as it gets closer to 0:00.

As for the th.hold pitch thing, that was simple ... duh There are 4 pitch curves and "H" is one of them. I kept seeing "H" as "N". I had to cycle through them several times to finally figure it out.

Ok now to give it a whirl and see if I fly better!

... I am gonna skip over that last one and pretend I didn't see it ...

So I got a flight in and I have just two words ...

It works.

Oh and the timer rules! It definitely feels nice in my hands but the slightly tighter feel of the sticks is going to take some getting used to. I also have to admit that I am getting more used to the added info on the LCD screen and the extra nav buttons. Like I needed to adjust the EPA to increase the tail speed, so I headed into the menu, rolled the wheel to E.Point, clicked it, selected ch4, rolled the wheel till is says 140%, moved the stick left and then rolled the wheel to 140%, pressed end and I was flying again. That is definitely a better system than the 6EX.

Chris, great report. Sounds like a nice radio. On the stick tension, most radios have a spring adjuster. In fact I recently found that my stock Eflight radio had them.

My DX7 came with the springs really loose. I flew that way until I moved to pinching and was wanting a little more tactile feel of the center position. You'll have to take the back off to get to them. Once the back is off the screws should be obvious.

*sniff* *sniff* *sniff* I love you guys too ...

Tryan where do you think I got the 140 idea from I tried to do a piro and it only went like 90* when I was expecting it to come around full circle. That was a slightly panicky moment

Now to be totally serious, I HAVE COMPETITION NOW! So I gotta step up. I have already been told that I will be eatin mfcrash's dust by the end of the summer I say BRING IT ON MIKE!

I have neaver seen a guy that came from NO R/C, to a guy with most of the answers, or will get them for ya, than TJ. I have come to trust what he says, and if im looking for something, I ask Chris first. Plus, TJ nearates his vids and makes us all laught. Now some of us with 6's are wishing we waited a bit longer. Im sure Fuataba will want to see the compairsion when TJ's done.

Well put Dar! Chris, your progress is impressive! I love the narration and I think that speaks to the "mental reserve" you have while flying. Most of the time I only have enough concentration powers to keep the heli airborne. I couldn't imagine delivering a monologue at the same time. Its great that you are mastering the basics and not jumping ahead. I'm taking the same path but I'm not progressing near as fast as you. Keep up the good work!
