Hello

Soon i'm going to put together my Logo 14 with 10s 3700mAh battery pack, wide 560mm blades and still cant decide which one of Z50A motors to put in it - 600 or 800kv version?
I heard that gearing in L14 often strips under heavy load. Will getting lower kv motor(600kv) with larger pinion help here? I would like to have as much power as possible without being afraid of stripping gears in flight.
Also what is the tooth count on main gear and pinion included in the kit?

Do You have any suggestions?

Thanks

logo 14

it really doesn't matter what motor you choose ...personally I would get the 800KV motor ..

the gearing of the logo 14 does not strip out easy if the mesh is set correctly. If you have any gear stripping issues then your mesh is probably not tight enough.

the tail drive gear on the logo 14 is a .5 mod setup and if you fly VERY hard 3d then it's a good idea to convert that tail drive gear to the .7mod gearing just like the main gear.

The .7mod gear(main Gear)that comes with the logo 14 is a 138t gear.

I don't think the logo 14 came with a pinion but either way ...you'll want to buy the correct pinion when you decide the motor you get.

hope this helps
Anthony

Yep, never stripped a gear even when running my 24-3 at 2400 HS, it just comes down to the meshing. the 800 motor for power or the 600 for long flight times on a soft gearing.

Thank You Guys a lot.

Two more questions:
Where did You get Your pinions?
Will Raptor 50 belt work for streaching Logo 14? Anyone tried? Making my own tailboom shouldn't be a problem and swinging 600mm blades would be nice.

Logo 14

Don't waste your time with the raptor belt...Mikado sells a belt and a boom to stretch the logo 14 to 600mm blades.

As for getting that and the pinions you can get them in the USA from Esprit models...I think revolution helis sells them in the UK also...

you just need to get a Mikado/revco or align .7mod pinion....the trex 600 pinions work on the logos as well

Maybe i'm just thinkering too much but will 780kv motor on 10s battery pack hold 30000rpms without heating too much and destroying bearings?
Since Z-power Z50 is a 8 pole motor probably any ESC will keep up with it but i not sure if it wont blow apart

I still can't decide if i should buy 600 or 780kv version. 600kv will allow bigger pinion which should eliminate gear stripping problems on 0.7mod.

I'm not going to use governor, just fixed throttle curve so i dont need any rpms reserve.
I just need to know if 600kv version with right gearing would give me same amount of power that 780kv gives..Anyone?

Thanks for help

I'm not sure about those motors in particular, but I once posed the same question to the tech reps at Neu motors; "assuming the same end head speed, which is better, a lower kv motor geared up or a higher kv motor geared down?" Their answer was that the faster spinning motor would generate more power and torque than the larger motor turning slower. That's why Align went with a 1600kv motor and huge reduction gear for their 600-E.

So, for 10S power and assuming 3.5V/cell under load, you'd get something like this:

800 kv motor = 28000 motor rpm; needs a lower pinion like 12t to keep the head speed managable around 2300 rpm using curves.

600 kv motor = 21000 motor rpm; needs a 16t pinion to get the same head speed as the faster motor.

One of the guys at Esprit Models ran a Neu 1907- 1Y (1400 kv) with 6S packs in his Logo 10. Made insane power but kept stripping main gears because he had to use such a small (11 or 10 I think) pinion to get the head speed under control, so there's a point of diminishing returns.

I don't know if that helps at all but it might be food for thought.

Thanks, no more questions here, i'm going to order 780kv version

BTW what are the logo 14 battery tray/cage dimensions? What is the width of frames and max height(form bottom plate to mainshaft?)
