It is with a certain level of disappointment and relief, that I announce the decision to shut down Dave Yost Designs (DYDHELI.COM) affective immediately .

I have greatly enjoyed meeting customers and hearing the enthusiasm about our product over the last two years. As some of you know, I had an aggressive business plan for 2008 that involved manufacturing our own canopies. After serious evaluation, I decided to shelve the plan to accept a position with my previous employer.

The ultimate factor in the decision was my wife's parents becoming very frail and her choice to leave her job and help them transition to an assisted living situation. In addition, downward pressure on prices and lack of ability to protect our product were risk factors that were taken into consideration. After two years of what I would describe as allot of hard work, with great personal reward, but limited financial results, DYD was simply not mature enough to be our sole source of income.

I will continue to paint my own canopies, and I am looking forward to rededicating myself to helping people in the hobby learn to paint. Furthermore, I would like to thank the Szabo's for promoting our work, the high light of which would be Alan Jr. winning the XFC with one of my paint jobs along for the ride.

All sponsorships and orders not started are cancelled. Canopies in progress will be finished in June and vendor commitments will be met by the end of July.

Respectively,

Dave Yost

As long as you still post pics of new designs we will be O.k. Where else are we going to get ideas from???? That is the best compliment I know of. I was SO hoping for one of those new carbon canopies of yours for my Synergy. They sure did look spectatular.

Best wishes Dave,

Norman Ross Jr.

Sorry to see you go Your work is always unique, gorgeous and inspirational to a lot of other artists. DYD canopies are amazing and have set the bar for all of the rest. Good luck with the new direction.

Aww man and I never got to buy one, what a bummer

I've always wanted one of your canopies, but wanted to improve my skills significantly before finally putting one on my machines. One day, I'll take the time to learn to paint! Best of luck!

It is a real shame Dave but completely understandable. Your work is second to none and that is clear by the number of DYD copies out there, they only copy the best....top bloke, top work and will be missed in the business..........

Sorry to hear about you wife's parents. I hope that everything turns out for the best for you and your family.

Your canopies are truly a work of art. It is a shame that another canopy painting company decided to steal some of your designs and incorporate them into their paint schemes. Your paint jobs have been among the best in the business.

Thank you for taking your time to talk to me via PM's and on the phone in the past when I started to learn how to paint. Your advice has really helped me out.

Good luck in you future endeavors with your previous employer. Hopefully you will continue to frequent the forums with your excellent advice.

Hi Dave,

I did not have the pleasure of meeting you in person nor could afford one of your art canopies but it is really a great loss for the hobby. Your canopies created a tendency in the market and will for sure be missed.

I understand the reasons behind so you have all my support in your new endeavour.

Best wishes

Best of luck, Dave. Would have liked one of your designs. Definately the best of the best.

Heh. You should just jack the price until demand hits the point that satisfies you. Might make just as much on the bottom line painting just a few shells a year.

Unfortunately I doubt I will learn to paint even with a master as yourself. I gave up a long time ago. I can't even remember a single paint job I was able to complete.

Sometimes we just have to surrender to the evidence.
