I came across this automatic inflating PFD at WESTMARINE last night.
It's made for animals so it is smaller then the human PFD's.
I bought the larger one, they come in medium and small sizes.
One difference between this style and the larger human PFD's is that it gives you more options to mount it.
On the human sized PFD's the air bag is integral with the outer shell.
This one the outer shell is just a cover for air bag.
The mounting straps are sown along the length of the shell and a clip at the head end to attach the harness. So it gives you
The human PFD's just have one waist belt with a strap that is permanently secured to the shell at the head.
If you take off all the straps you can reduce the weight to it's minimum.
For a large heli you should be able to fit it around the lower fuselage above the landing gear.
For those untimely water landings it might come in handy!

Anyone interested, it was $139.99 in the store.
