Not wanting to take any risks the the GSR AP rig, I bought a complete new system - GY611 and BLS251 combo. I am told that this is a really good setup so I feel a bit better about having the heli in the air. I had lost confidence with the GY401 and 9254 - not only my experience but the postings of many others suggested there is a good chance that the system will fail. I really can't afford to take a chance carrying all that gear...

Pics of the new system:

Anyone got the setup process for AP for this combo???

Sounds good - yes, I've just read the manual and it does look straightforward. I'm just wondering if it would be best to use the "gyro sens" setting on the 9309 radio - or just keep using the gear channel as I did with the 401??

Tail Servo is the most important especially in AP. Safety first. I think KarbonBird is on the right way. This servo is amazing!

Yes, will do. From what I have read though this gyro/servo setup is of the best available and handles vibrations well also. I will have it installed possibly tonight/tomorrow and it will be in the air on Saturday. The setup is slightly different to the fairly simplistic 401, but I only need the basic settings so it shouldn't be a problem. I reckon if there is any doubt as to the benefit of a good tail servo - refer here for a reminder: http://www.runryder.com/fastphoto/36566/DSC_4472.jpg

Hmmm I wonder how well the BLS251 would work with the helicommand....or if you'd be better off with the 601 or 611

..........there I was, out of altitude, airspeed, and ideas.......

Yes, good point. The BLS251 appears to be very specifically linked to the 611 so whether it will work with other gyro systems is not clear - until someone actually tests it. I would suggest not, but then I don't know the specific workings of the HC, so it may indeed be possible. At this point in time I need to focus on getting the heli flying in a safe condition, so I need to fit a new servo/gyro combo to address this right away.

On the HC - I have an AP2000i fitted to my T-Rex 600 ... but i have never engaged it once. I'm sure that there are some benefits in using it but up until now I fly comfortably without it so it's not really an issue.

LHS - but helikraft.com has them - even less than what I paid: http://www.helikraft.com/Futaba/FUT...gyro+combo.html
