hey brad now the rappy has a clutch of some sorts right? So the reserve in the blades will stay higher than an electric that is fighting gear mesh?

Is this maybe why a nitro will auto better or am I totally off?

Those autos looked a little scary to me from a risk / repair standpoint.

IMHO

I don't think helis in the 450 size can do any more than you guys are getting out of them.

As for my next flying goal,

I believe Greg RE ease of learning AFTER you master orientation.

It's gonna be a while for me to get comfortable.

I'm a slow learner and I'm OK with that.

Again, increments of improvement make for big fun.

If you don't believe that, just ask that hot shot Fender.

I was testing the limits thats for sure. IMO a 4ft auto is about all a gear driven heli can accomplish without a little hard landing. I was at full collective on the 5 and 6ft ones and had no flare like the 2ft ones. So that pretty much tells me at least my heli isn't good for much more than that. But if I got to sacrifice a $7 landing gear so be it.

Good luck with the circles mike they are really easy my biggest problem was trying to come out of them to quick when it started coming at me. Just relax and ease through it and remember to fly the tail with it. HH gyro you gotta move both sticks almost equally the rudder as much as the cyclic just move both sticks the same and you do a circle.

So the HH wants to go straight.

it will stay locked and wont turn with the heli. You are feeding rudder doing turns. Its just like that just keep it going on around.

For me getting smooth rudder coordination has been the hardest part. When turning, there is no weather vaning so you have gently feed in, then gently take out the rudder when turning. When I first started practicing ovals, I would lead with the rudder. Very slow forward flight using only the rudder to steer.

I just flew one pack in the Mini today, but I made more progress on the Rex and I have some pics of the servo install since I used some petty non-typical servos.

Tryan,
I think you just have more reserve in the blades. I will say that the blades do turn alot easier than the electric heli though. Your theory would seem correct.

yeah but in an auto the main gear stops turning so gear mesh does not come into play, correct??

I think nitro usually have bigger blades which have more momentum, which allows them to auto better

most nitros have a belt driven tail that turns during auto's,some have torque tubes but most have a driven tail,no??

I think it has more to do with weight of machine/blades

Both nitro and electric birds are the same once you get past the main gear. They both have one-ways, they both run the tail with the main rotor, they both have mechanical drag. The Nitro bird is just usually bigger and is swinging 2-3 pounds of blades vs ounces with a 450.

No flying for me today as it is not nice out. The sky looks like it is about ready to kill us all and it has been like that all day. I did get the Rex all flight ready though. When I get a calm moment, I will take it out and see how it does.

Tryan or JC or Slider, can you take a photo your Rex tail from the back side with the servo at it's neutral position. Mine seems like it is too close to the boom when I get a little bit of +pitch on the blades.

OK Im frustrated now! If electrics are the same how do you start a nitro motor without the blades engaging? I am relying on what I saw a nitro 15 years ago they had some sort of clutch.

TJ I dont understand the pic you want from the back can you shoot a pic and Ill duplicate it?

Oh and we had That weather yesterday I was doing the autos between thunderstorms I flew at the calm before the storm.

Tryan,
Yes the engine does disengage when its not running. I think Fender is right. I just wasnt sure how to explain it. Bigger meatier blades. If the wimpy motor could turn bigger meatier blades, youd have more reserve in the blades.
