I forgot about the Sukhoi! Spencer let me fly his Parkzone Sukhoi Su-26m. First of all, that little bugger is the most twitchy aircraft I have ever flown . I had to dial in 60% rates to control that little rascal. Anyway, I ended up hitting a large foamie airplane...midair. The crash tore off part of the Sukhoi's elevator, along with a piece of the rudder. However, the Sukhoi still flew like a champ . Anyway, we repaired the torn parts with a little CA and kicker and all was well .

The sukhio also got a hole in the bottom of it.

I was taught by a guy on planes that the servo horn has multiple holes in it for a reason. All the guy's buy these heavy duty dubro servo horns as long as the servo and put them all the way to the outside then say its too sensitive and add 30% expo to handle it. Think about it. That doesnt solve the problem the throw distance is still the same just the first 30% of the stick doesn't count.

Its like servo arms and washout arms all being at 90 degree's.

Now I adjust my clevis on the servo in and out on the control surface to make sure my servo travels its full travel in high rates and dial it down for low rates so you must use the whole stick to get the whole throw.

But I have heard from a guy that has one the sukoi is touchy and not as much fun to fly as the little mustang.

Airplane control surfaces are very much NON linear. More than helis. Half stick aileron will yeald MORE than half roll rate. Expo brings that into a more linear pattern.
One often uses long horns on BOTH ends to minimize the mechanical slop or flex in the rods since in airplanes, the rods can get rather long. In the better stuff, they will put servos right by the control surface and they will use ball links just like helis.

I fly planes with usually no more than 4" pushrods and 32" servo extensions.

So you can set them up pretty linear. And what I was referring to was people not using the whole stick If you set up mechanically to a huge throw like 90 degrees and then dial down the throw in the radio to recommended throws. Your resolution from plane to stick movement is too high. Breath on the stick and it starts moving. Makes for jerky looking flight I guess you could call it 3D.

Yes,

I flew my Blade mCX today. Had fun indoors. I heard the Blade mSR fixed pitch is much faster. Maybe that and the sim will help me get through winter months.

Happy New year all!

Not flying today but charging everything to fly tomorrow. Well other than the TREX 250 indoors but found it has wrong size bearings in the grips so the blades wont track . Club has a Polar Bear fly with a lunch tomorrow. Temp for tomorrow is high 18!!!

Will have a fire pit lit to help stay warm and hot chili and a whole menu full of goodies.

Went to the AMA field for our new years fly-in. I flew the flasher 450 in it's first foward flight. I have cheap electronics in it and cheap Tx controlling it. I remember flying this nearly same electronics package last spring and realize that I'm not going back to flying this stuff regularly. I'm selling this as is but if a local flyer wants to upgrade it, I'll do the work for them.

I also put skiis on my electric plank and put 2 flights in. I did some "slide and go's" too. There were 5 helicopters this morning and 3 heli pilots vs. 3 airplanes. I was only there for 1 1/2 hours though. Temps were in the 30's. The cold did not seem to adversly affect much though.

Flew my 250, Raptor 30, and my T-28 Trojan. Was the club polar bear fly today we had 9 degrees with flurries and a blustery wind out of the west it was pure hell I finally quit when I couldn't feel the gimbals under my thumbs!!!!!! I fly barehanded and with the wind chill it was almost impossible to fly. Even the guy's with gloves were only lasting 3-4 minutes. I now understand the transmitter mitts.

But the food was awesome!!!

Got 1 pack in before my fingers went numb. This was also the coldest I've flown with my Eflite gyro(16F with windchill). I let it sit out for the usual 10-15 minutes but it didn't help much and by the end of the flight it was drifting pretty good. I guess you can only expect so much out of a cheap gyro

well today i was think im not going anywere today so i put shorts on since i am in the house and i disided to go get my heli set because i put my new JR G370 gyro on it. So i went outside with no jacket and still wearing my shorts and the thing is its 18F outside and i was frezzing when i came in. i had to use the heat gun i have to warm up. So if you think i was stupid to do that just wait. I did it agian. i would not use the hole battery up because half way threw i would not be able to feel my fingers on the controler so i had to land and go in and warm up! I guess i am the sharpest crayon in the box!

I have tried and tried,I just cant get into winter flying, and I LOVE this hobby.whats the point in flying if you are just freezing your butt off,the heli wont even fly proper due to temps and you are really putting strain on the batts...I dont see the need to fly just to say "yeah I flew"...winter time is sim time, for me anyway,I just dont have fun and if its not fun why bother?I'm gettin some new stuff ready for next season,anyway..

hey HBKowner..make sure you check the gear mesh and belt tension when going in and out of the house like that, you'd be surprised how much they can change.

oh i did fly 2 batts today but its not cold and no wind, but when its 20 deg out..I'm not

Fender we had a dozen guy's come out just to say I flew and we had a really good time. I wish you could of shared in the fun. Regardless of the miserable single digit weather wind chill was double digit though -10.

Oh and it didnt really hurt the batteries in the Raptor.

And the Gy240 was ridiculously well locked dont know how?

But it was a hard start.

And you bring up a good point fender I have to adjust belt tension in the big raptor tailboom I get some major shrinkage a 1/8" in the heli and a couple inches myself.
