Hey all, I have taken on the task of putting together the history of our flying club:
Chula Vista Model & Radio Control Club
I got the idea after going thru some of the flying clubs listed here on RR and when I took over the duties of the club newsletter. I was given a little suitcase of information about the club, but it is incomplete. I have a newsletter dated back to 1985 and I've been told that the club started about 30 years ago in Chula Vista, California in the lot of a company called Rhohr. Some of you may remember that as the company that built some of the Saturn V (I believe) rockets that were used to launch when the space program was a little more active.
I have some old newsletters, again dating back to 1985, 1991-97 and some funny pictures of guys flying who have those Elvis Presley kind of sideburnds and guys in those short shorts of the 80's (my son can't believe that guys had the nerve to wear those back then). I would like to gather more pictures, newsletters and even stories of those who have been to our field back then and even to now. There has been a huge change in that there were only plane pilots and know there are quit a few heli pilots. I know that there are RR members here who have pictures in their gallery of our field from the last 2-3 Heli Fun Flies, however, I'm sure there are others who might have some snapshots and digital pictures of the field, people, aircraft that can be used to chronicle the life of this club. Believe it or not, for those who have been here in the last 3 years or so, that bridge that you cross to get to the field wasn't always there and I think that the club started about 2 fields ago - just some other factoids.
I am thinking that the final form of this endeavor could be a link to the club website, on a CD, in a special edition of a newsletter or depending on the size - a small book. Anyone who contributes will be sited as a contributor, unless you choose to not be named. This task is also bring to one source information about the club that all our club members can go thru and read, and for anyone else curious about the club they can do so too.
So, what I'm getting at is, if you have any pictures, newsletters, stories that you can share with me as I get this history of our club together, I'd appreciate it if you can share it with me. Or really, you'ld be sharing it with our club and future club members.
And for some of you former San Diegans, let us know what you have of the club when you where here.
Thanks in advance to all
Having my heli: Cool, Having a working heli: Awesome, Having a day to fly: PRICELESS!
