What is the average head speed everyone is using??? I have the LH four blader on my S-76 model with a four blade tail rotor and am having issues with heat.

What I had:

Align 430L with 11t pinion
2200 RPM HS at about 70% gov mode
Motor Temp was above 130 after a 6 min flight.
ESC Temp wa above 130 as well.

So, what I switched to is:

Scorpion -8 motor with 10t pinion
CC 65 amp ESC
2500 RPM HS at 60% gov mode
Temps are way way down, but still too low throttle curve.

I've read and agree with the 2100-2200 RPM HS. I have a 9t pinion that I'm going to try tonight and have an 8t on the way.

Any numbers out there from folks??

So many variables it's really hard to say. I run a 10t pinion on a JGF450TH motor in my 450 scalers at 2100RPM. Your motor kv will of course have an impact on what your throttle is set at relative to head speed. I run a 90 flat line with a Jazz ESC governed. All is good and totally cool to the touch after a eight minute run.

And, btw, vermonster: Supert Hornet did a post a while back about tail rotor ratios and multi-blades. I run stock Align two blade TR setups with my five blade main heads and just used the older gear sets for the original 450's to speed up the tail. At the higher ratio it has no problem with the additional torque from the multi head.

Well I just tried the 9 tonight and now have the HS down where I want it, but the throttle curve is still at 60%, too low. I think the 8 tooth will be perfect.

Where can you get the old gears?? I've looked on eBay but can't find them. No matter what, I'm still getting a little clockwise tail drift (CCW Main Rotor). I'm still playing with the gyro though as I don't power it down and back on between changing settings so it's one pack to the next.

Looks 90Degree alright (for Clockwise rotation).

BTW, how come your HeliArtist rotor head comes with manual? Mine somehow do not have

I don't know it was just in the box. I was going to scan it but my new computer (vista) needs some more software.

I'm going to try clockwise first, since I am going to the 4 bladed tail. I like to do one step at a time so I can see what's going on. If I did the whole thing in one shot I have no idea where to start problem solving.

Improve Pour Tail Response with Scale ApacheTREX 450.

I have a scale Apache(DARTH) with a TREX 450S as the Mechanics. I which I have working on for some time.

It has a four blade rotorhead which flew quite well in pod a boom form, but when I put the Apache fuselage on it I had very pour tail response. So After reading several post and trying all kings of throttle curve and pitch curve adjustments I found a solution which worked best for me. I replaced the front tail pully system with a modified Torque tube Front Gear from a TREX-450 pro 26T. I removed the bevel gear and ground down the shaft to fit the CNC rear tail pully from an HDX450SE.
When I ran up the heli I was amazed at the fantastic tail respone I got. I was like flying the Heli in pod and boom configuration.

So if yiu have trouble with pur tail response with your scale heli, give this a try.
