I went to a nearby field this afternoon to go and fly a bit, but the most awkward thing happened. I started my Sceadu's engine and took my distance for take-off. Moved throttle stick up... nothing happens. I figure the engine has a prob. However, when I moved the cyclics stick, nothing happened either.
So I pinched the fuel line and walked home, thinking about what could be wrong. Well, that was about 4 hours ago and I still have no clue!!
All I know is: The transmitter (9chp) and receiver (149dp) are about 3 weeks old. The batterries are fully charged. The receiver was wrapped in foam in the battery compartment with the crystal unable to get out. The gyro (401) gets juice (LED blinks), so the switch is not broken. Switching between PCM and PPM does not make a difference. Nothing seems to be wrong with the transmitter. And 2 days ago everything worked fine!

I suppose either the transmitter stopped transmitting or the receiver stopped receiving..
Any thoughts at all on this matter???

By the way, I bought the transmitter from Cyberheli. I hope I can return it to them for another one if this problem can't be resolved....

I had something similiar like this happen to me twice (different radios). I narrowed it down to the crystal. On the first one it was the reciever and the second one it was the transmitter crystal. Replaced it and all was fine. It's rare, but they do fail even when you don't crash.

Thanks Al! That was something I hadn't thought of yet.
I know for sure now the transmitter is ok. I used it with another receiver plus older (PPM only) crystals.
However, I am trying to do the same with the R149DP receiver, but it won't work. So I have an additional question: will this receiver work with PPM only crystals or only with dual conversion ones?

Also... will an older type PPM only transmitter/receiver work with the crystals supplied with the 9CHP/R149DP??

PPM crystals will not work with R149DP. It requires a dual conversion crystal.

You can definitely return the defective parts for a replacement when you nailed it down.

Just curious, did you have the correct modulation set in the TX (PCM or PPM)?

It sounds like you unit is brand new. I would send it back and have them figure it out. That's the nice thing of buying domestic, you have warranty.

Stephen,
Thanks for replying. I'm afraid I can not nail the problem down any further. Either the receiver is broken or one of the crystals. I assume the latter is most likely (?)
I don't have a spare crystal set lying around so I cant check which one is broken. Is there another way to check this?
Otherwise, can I return both crystals for a new pair? I have a pending order at your shop right now. You could send them along with it..

ItsBent, I had the correct modulation set. No doubt about it.

Man, too many things can go wrong in this hobby! I'm glad this failure occured while the heli was still on the ground though!!
