Got an MDS 40 plank engine lying about, only about a gal through it. Any ideas what I should do with it? I was thinking along the lines of some kind of swamp buggy or hovercraft .

Lets hear some ideas people !

Thanks for all your excellent ideas guys .

LMAO Finndave : "Mine Doesn't Start"
Any other ideas what MDS stands for?

Maybe ummmm...

Cmartin: I had it in a plank but it crashed on its first flight because the bloody engine stopped! So I saw the light and got a heli.

"It's an MDS and you're calling it an 'engine' !?#!?'"

Just kidding guys. I have 3 MDS 38's. They're OK.

How about mounting it on a bicycle.

Gidday

Do we have a projected power output / how much grunt ?

its a 40 maybe a horse ? =~750watt

lets be kind and say 75% efficient 560 watt

thats 5 100 watt spotties.
probably be able to start one of the $1000
discharge lamps
1 Bolt a alternator to it
power your heli with rf tracking spot lights(will maintain illuminated position regardless of heli position, to a point), might struggle to lift off!! Handy if you lost something on the back lawn at night and the torch was flat.
power lights at a night function !!! that would be cool, bury it in the ground to stop the noise ducted with perspex lid , would require a illuminated mark on the shaft to appreciate the rotation.
charge your batteries

2 Bolt a water pump to it and use it for watering the grass where you park your car at the airfield. gv1 might help
attach it to the heli and water the grass at the airfield - usefull , big bonus!!! i
4 bolt it to the heli driving large tail rotor (variable pitch) connect up the gv1 and have onboard thrust boost fore and aft !!!!!!!! imagine the quick starts and stops, cheyene (sp) !!?

5 bolt it to a gearbox with a flywheel and clutch and use it for starting your heli ,now you have to start two engines !! cordless though.- most frustrating

6 attach to a milkshake machine , with gv1 again,of course- currently my favourite

7 repower the cordless drill , gv1 with variable option vital, noisey and not really that handy for starting 0.5 mm bits.

8 use it onboard heli to power a onboard turbine sound system

I'll stop for now

Regards Don
