I installed a Gem 2000 on my Hawk over the last couple days and when I tryed to fly today, the tail was whipping back and forth and doing complete circles on spoolup. I didn't realize at the time that this was what was causing the tail to go wild. I checked and rechecked everything just to make sure nothing had been knocked loose. Finally when I unplugged the Gem 2000 from my receiver, the wild tail action quit. Has anybody else had this to happen to them? Why do you think that happened? Your thoughts please.

Gem2000

I had to return a Gem2000 that was causing all my servos to jump around on my Raptor 30. I noticed the jumping before I ever tried to fly the heli. Bench test your Hawk with the Gem2000 plugged in and watch the servos for a few minutes and see if the tail servo is jumping.

Hi toddsnake, yea, they all jump and twitch when the radio is turned on. I saw this to start with but I didn't think much about it because I am using the stock receiver antenna tube, and about 8 inches of antenna sticks out the end and was laying on the ground. I don't think they would take it back now because I had to modify the length of the wire leads to the lights in order to mount it where I wanted it. I spliced the wires together with soldered connections and topped off with heat shrink tubing. (just my luck).

The GEM does cause servo jitter if the receiver filter or XTal is bad. Maybe you are seeing the GEM in action warning you about potential problems with the receiver.

i agree with Tim.

The gem will cause servos to jitter should there be a problem with the tuning circuit or crystal. Do the range test as suggested in the instructions to see if there is a marked difference with and w/o the gem installed.

um.....

I replaced a gyro after having problems with tail "whipping". When
I installed the new gyro (I installed some new servos while I was at it) I uninstalled the gem 2000. -- I didn't have the lights where I can see them anyways.

I didn't realize it at the time, but before I send my gyro for warranty work I will have to check this. unfortunately I will not be able to fly for a few weeks, but I will let you know what happens when I install the same gem back on with a working gyro.

I'll also test the gyro on a different bird without the gem installed.
