OK guys as was suggested in the helicommand profi thread i am starting this thread for discussion about setting up the Helicommand 3a,3d and rigid.
My helicommand 3a is going to show up either tomorrow or monday, at which point i will cover detailed setup with my joker 2 and jr 9303 radio.

So if you have any tips, tricks, or just want to talk HC then lets do it here

OK guys. I just got my HCa unit this morning and have started the fun task of programing the unit.

Just to recap i bought the HC3a and PC adapter and software.
The HC3a will be going in the following:
-Joker 2
-JR9303 TX
-JR R2100 RX
-GY401/9254 on the tail

So setup wasn't entirely hard but nor was it just plug and play idiot proof. It took me a good hour before i got the servos moving the correct way, and i still have lots of programming/ tweaking to do. I will say teh programming software/adapter is a must, trying to do the setup with just the blinking lights was very hard.

So far all i have working is the servos moving in the correct directions, and the stabilization countering the correct way. I still need to setup a slider to control the % of stabilization and i am going to try to map a switch for Auto trim function.

Chandler at espritmodels is the most knowledgeable person I have spoken with regarding the Helicommand units.

Give him a call for specifics that you can't find after searching through the threads, although looking back, there is really nothing that has not been already covered.

HC Installation

I want to use a HC3D in a new,never setup, Trex450SE V2. Just a few questions.
1. Do I need to setup the heli as if to fly without the HC and then install the HC?
2. If not,do I subtrim the 3 swash servos to centre(level), air.(ch2) and elv.(ch3) neutral, pitch servo (ch6,aux1) (throttle stick to 50%). I have a JR9303 for a radio and I'll have 1 servo swash selected.
3. Where is the best place to mount the HC? If you mount it on the tailboom, one of the T/B braces seems to be in the way of the optical sensor. Is it ok to remove one brace for installation?
4.If one is succesful in getting the swash to move correctly, do you set up the swashplate,ie. zero pitch, positive and neg pitch end points, with HC hooked up to the PC?

Any help would be appreciated.

Buffy.

PC link

I just received the Helicommand Rigid ,but the PC interface uses an old style 9 pin connector (DB9 ?) male plug.
Is it just as simple as getting a gender changer to use with my laptop. Why would a product like this not use a USB style plug??

HC setup

Hey all. I had few questions that I sent off to Captron and here is what they sent back. FYI.

Hi.
I have few questions regarding the setup of my HC 3D.
1. When setting the neutral points, do I put the throttle trim all the way down or leave it in the middle? Of course not! Just keep them in the middle first, and if you need them for trimming, please do the neutral setting again with the new trim values.
2. I noticed in the diagnostic panel on the PC, when I put my throttle at half way (zero pitch) the bar indicator showed the position of my throttle a bit below(1 cm) the centre bar. Is this normal? I have a JR 9303 Tx. Hitec HS65HB servos on the swashplate. Sure this can occur, depending on the signal transformation. If you use any expo or things like that, surely the signal, when your stick is in the center, won't be the same at the receiver. It will move and this is what the diagnosis shows. But this must not be a problem. This is just the signal you use.
3.Is it OK to use the transmitter's subtrim to level the servo arms? If so do I reset the neutral points? Yes, this is ok, and yes, you need to do the neutral setting each time you use your radio's trims.
4.If I make trim changes to the heli during test flying and reset the neutral points, do I put the transmitter trims back to center? No, leave them where they are, because if you put them back to center, the trim is not neutral again, as you trimmed again when moving them back.

Ok guys i think i pretty much have the HC3a programmed now. I do have a quick question concerning the auto-trim fuction.

Currently i have my auto trim set to my gear switch on my 9303 since i cant map it to the trainer switch. I am using a gy401 on the tail, so i have it programed to go from 0%(off position) to 100%(on position). So when i activate the switch the diagnose page in the software indicates that the HC3 is now in auto trim mode, and the HC3 i believe is telling me i am in auto trim mode as well by very quickly blinking red. So my question is how can i test that the auto trim is working correctly on the bench?

The auto trim fuction is really the only part i am having a hard time understanding, and from searching online and in RR it seems i am not the only one.

Hey guys,

I'm also setting up a hc 3d with a j9303. i got the swash to move the right way but when i turn the hc on and tilt the heli the swash moves the oposite way to correct the heli but only in forward and back ward movement. When I tilt the heli left or right the hc does not make the reverse corrections it actually moves the swash more in the same direction not the opposit to correct it. If I reverse the 2 servo's then it's the opposite when i move the stick on the radio.

Wham i'm i missing here?

I have it on the right side of the Heli(Curved part of hc facing right)

I also tryed to change the positions in the software it does make a difference but it seems that the left/right orientation is backwards.

If I setup the left/right to work then the rear/forward is backwards.

Thanks for your help.

CJ,

You have to get the servos all moving in the correct direction according to the diagnosis tab first. Its a little tedious.

What kind of heli are you using?

We will get it figured out, its just a combination of servo directions etc..

Set "right" under the 'Mixer' tab for mounting orientation and go from there.

Hi,

i'm using the hc on a predator gasser 3/120 swash and a jr x9303 2.4 with a 921 recevier.

The swash moves right when the heli command is off but when you turn it on i don't know why the forward/backwards is backwards only when the hc is making corrections.

Thanks
Joe
