I seem to have a little back/forth movement (very little, like 1/2 teeth worth) on my main gear (not vertical) if I would hold the rotor head....would this be causing me any problems?

Some history:

Several weeks ago, I had a TT50 in my R50 and it seemed to be leaning out, causing a 'wavering' sound and tail would go back and forth a few degrees....so now, I have a brand new OS50 (love it) and although I only ran 3 tanks through it and am real rich, I still get that 'wavering' sound and the tail still jerks a few degrees, although not as much as w/ my TT50. Almost sounds like mini-wah-wahs...this happens in a hover without any major power changes.

I do have Rick's driven tail unit on. I haven't pulled the gear yet, but would this be because I am still running real rich, or possibly a bearing going out? I will pull it out tonight when I get home, but wanted to get some input for you guys. I talked to a Larry from Heliproz yesterday (that's where I got my engine) about this and he thought it was just because it is running real rich and it is "four-stroking" and will go away as I am leaning it out.

Thanks alot for any help.
Rob

Sounds like mini-wah wah

From your description it does sound like mini wah wah's. I would check a couple of things. did you use the shims to align the TT in the mount? if not you may have created some slack in the gear mesh, and now with the OS, it is a little loose. Are all other components the same?? fan etc? Now that you are running real rich, is your head speed the same as before? higher or lower. This symptom is usually wah wah related on a decent, without blade load. Sounds like yours happens only in a hover. Also how old and what type is the gyro and servo? Maybe nt the problem but worth a look. I don't run the driven tail so others will have to help out there.

Hope this helps

Mike,

The gear mesh looked ok. I thought about that too, but have yet to take out the gear out. I am running the 401 w/ 9253 gyro. My headspeed may be just a tad low, as I am just hovering for break-in. I haven't added any other components. This is just weird, but hoping I can find out the problem. I am wondering if maybe one of bearings is wearing out?

Thanks,
Rob
