Zsprks,

You state "My needles are not tuned fully yet as I get a little ying ying ying on fast descent ".

I has been my experience the "ying ying ying" sound on fast descent is caused by a lean or hot condition. However, the problem is if you richen the mixture to the point where that condition goes away, the smoothness and responsiveness may also.

Please continue to update us on this though as I, for one, am very interested in the final outcome.

Thanks,
SteveH

What did you have to do the engine/carb to get the 60B to fit?

OMG!!!!!!

Is this thing expensive or what. I guess that explains why the crappy two needle is stock on this engine.

I wonder if Cyberheli sells this part?

Just go to the for sale section and post WTB: OS 60B. You can usually pick one up for around $60. HTH....

hey zsparks this to weird. i made that mod to my os 50 last night and got about the same results today, i really had to richen the high and low needles compared to when it was on the 61. when i go to idle its still a little lean but i got rid of the ying ying in fast descents. just by tuning and tuning the needles. i had seen this mod in a previous post by malorie but was determined to make it work with the stock carb. years ago we used to replace the 7h carb on the old 61 sf with a super tiger carb and should of just done it along time ago on the 50 because i think it has finally solved the problems.

os 50 w/60b carb

hey zsparks i flew about 6 tanks today. i did more tuning but it still is a little lean when going to idle. other wise its running great. it does burn more fuel. but its more powerful. and smoother. i think its a keeper. hows yours doing.

How much fuel before she is considered broken in?

I think I might jump on the bandwagon..Is there a starting point with this carb?

Guys

This 6B carb was to get rid of that super-rich 1/4 stick...
I tried another way, as I noticed that my carb settings were WAAY richer than what seems to be right (1.25 turn open is std, I had it 2 turns open..) To me that suggests either the pipe is too restrictive or the plug is wrong. BTW it seems that those trying the 6B carb still have to tune it overly rich, even richer than an OS60 would require! So I would think the problem is not really when that carb is used.
So I first replaced my exhaust deflector to a bigger diameter one. Then I put the carb straight to the recommended value of 1.25 turn. The engine run VERY smooth, although it was running quite hot (not overheating but yes very hot). Hot engine while still tuned right can also be because of a wrong plug temperature.
So I replaced my OS8 plug with a colder Enya4 plug. Up to now this seems just to solve the problem, it's just getting warm, not hot at all. I have to do more serious flying though, this was all in cold weather and I will test more thoroughly coming weekend if weather permits. An additional advantage of the stock setting is the almost doubling of the flying time, I think I now get 20+ minutes out of a tank!

Maybe others want to give this - much cheaper - solution a try too.

w.pasman,

In short: replace the OS8 plug for a Enya4, reset carb to recommended settings and the over-rich spot at 1/4 throttle is gone.....i'm i right?

Enya 4?

If you have a rich problem the worst thing you can do is to put a colder plug on it, try an Enya 3 and dump the os#8.
