Just had a thought regarding use of the Tempest head for 3D. What would it take to change the flybar ratio? Perhaps new mixing levers? If that is the case, then that is something that is a fairly small expense and possibly even achievable with parts from another model entirely (oh the humanity! ). So even if the head is currently not optimized for 3D, perhaps all that's needed is that change along with dampers and adjustment of flybar length and/or paddles would do the trick.

Just a thought.
Cheers,
Ken

Just a thought-

Why not use the 3D head for 3D and leave the Tempest head on the store shelf unless you want to fly FAI, then no mods would be required.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Yea, one of my many faults.

As one of my favorite adages goes, you can indeed make chicken salad out of chicken poop but it takes a whole lot of mayonaise.

I agree. I have no plans to use the Tempest head for 3D. I was just trying to help those who are.

Actually, one of the stock mix ratios is 1:.65, which is also available on the other X-Cell heads. You can install any of the currently available o rings in the new head. You can shim as you see fit. The flybar paddles can be thrown farther than the Extreme's can, and without drooping the flybar arms. At least six degrees of direct input are attainable with the head, which is often the baseline for a good 3D set up. Pilots are already commenting on how the head tracks through all forms of 3D (see Panos's thread), often requiring fewer inputs. Jason is now testing a 3D variant of the Tempest head. If he notices the improvement in flight performance in his specialty that we contest pilots have in ours, I suspect the Tempest head will become very popular in both flight disciplines.
