im thinking about doing one of those rappy .30 little bird conversions that have been poping up and i heard with some chopping of the pitch arm you could get the rappy mech to fit. big question is the problem everyone describes is lack of power so what would happen if i slap an os .46 with out changing the tail boom etc. would there even be an increase without going to the longer blades...? i was thinking about just using a rappy 50 but i dont think it would work d/t the tail boom being too long. any alternatives? thanks to all the gurus in advance.

scale

It is easier to stick shuttle mechanics into a fuse then the R30. The best scale ships are with 60 mechs.

Anything over a .36 on 550 blades you run the risk of overspeeding the head unless you run a governor.

I have heard that the .39 will overspeed. I have no facts so that is just a rumor.

I tried running a .50 in my rap 30 with 550's the 50 gearing and it still wanted to overspeed. It was manageable, though. Talk about beaing able to 3D the thing. Jeez it was fun. I converted the boom and blades the next day. I liked flying the 50 size version better than the 30 in the end. Much more stable.

The tt39 will not overspeed. The OS 46 should work if you use throttle curves to adjust the rpms since the torque will always be there.

Just put one in

I just installed a GV-1 in my R-30V2 to keep the head speed constant.

It appears that when you are flying several different styles of manuevers, one mixing curve does not do it.

Also, the .39, even on a muffler, makes more than enough power to overspeed the head.

thanks for the replies, as a matter of fact i have an old shuttle in the "hanger" so the question about power still remains, so if i run a gov to limit the rpm, then you will not be making full use of the benifits of bigger displacement engines?

engine

the Gov. will limit RPM's , but there is increased torque to limit bogging down.
