Ok I have a question..I am planning on attending and hopefully competing at the novice level in my first fun fly this summer and was wondering how do you judge what level you should compete at. I am getting ok at FF but just a little nose in up high. By the time the Fun Fly comes around I hopefully will be better, but I always thought it was tacky for someone to compete as a novice just because it is their first time if they are well beyond that point. Are there rules governing this?
Also not that I am doing it to win anything, but what is typical for prizes if at all? I truly want to go to see how I match up and to witness some great flying. BTW it is the Reno Rotary Rendezvous in Sept. and I can't wait to go!!! Any info or help in getting ready would be appreciated.

Frist timmers

Greg, well it all dependes on you, There will be a pilots meeting before the events begin, They will inform you of each event, and what is to take place in each catagory,
Novice: usually hove in a 3' square for what you think is a minute
Then pad hop, You are only competing against your own time in each event, that is to say you need to be consistane.
Adavance: Bottle knock over, and pole race. The bottle knock over usually has 4 or 5 bottles set in differant places and you have to knock them over going one way, then do it again the other way. again you are competing against your own time. The pole race is, You start in a circle take off and fly about 100 yards or so, go around a pole then back to the starting point, Three different times for your best time...
Expert: Usually do a 180, into a loop, into a roll, Then land back in the starting point, as fast as you can. Then a pole race, Only farther out than the advance.
Pro: ALL OUT 3D with the other pilots judgeing which pilot does the most or WOW factor in there routine,,,, Hope this helps...If this is your first time I would start in the novice class, but It is really all up to you and your flying skills....John Crotts
