I am looking for some carbon fiber or g10 material to make a set of frames for a wireless starter and perhaps later on to make fins etc.. Does anyone know where I could purchase this material?
Thanks
Chris

Chris, here is were I buy CF. Good folks and good prices.
I make the bottom runner for the Robbe Futura SE out of the .110 single finish side sheet...

CF is MUCH different from G-10...CF is stronger and doesn't amplify vibration like G-10...JMHO.

I've been buying G10 sheets from McMaster-Carr. I though the prices were very good, plus they have a ton of other stuff.

I've been making fins and stuff with it.

Good Luck

Z11355, them skids ain't half wore out yet!!!

Actually I'm in process of putting wheels on it so I can do run-on landings with it...

I cut the plates by hand...a damn lot of dust but it's worth it to me, I can remove the motor, motor mount, clutch stack, fan shroud and muffler as one piece by removing the two 4mm motor mount bolts! Literally a 60 second job...now if I could only find an itty-bitty air ratchet to use at the field I could get that down to 30 seconds or so!

You can get G10 and carbon sheets at McMaster. I've tried several suppliers and the carbon sheets at McMaster are the best I have seen. G10 is about $6 for a 12x12x1/16 sheet and carbon is about $55 for a sheet the same size. Carbon dust is very bad to breathe and is even worse for electronics. Use carbide cutters with carbon and you must replace them often as they dull quickly. Here are some sideframes cut from carbon from McMaster.

If you're looking for something different, Art's Hobbies has some colored carbon sheets. These are $36 for a 6x12x1/16 sheet.

Fidman23,

I cut the parts on a small 3 axis CNC mill using 1/16" diameter 2 flute carbide endmills (about $6 each or $10 for a double sided). If you're cutting a slot the bit will chatter unless it has only two flutes. As for the G10, I know they have black and they might have the natural.

Raj,

If you have access to a CAD program you can send me a DXF, DWG, or IGES, otherwise I can draw it if you give me the dimensions. I can cut up to 9x5.5 without repositioning so hopefully the part is smaller than that. Let me know the approximate dimensions, material, and thickness and I'll work up a price. Thanks.

can u make parts for my rappy ?? i dont know the dimension and all that but i just want the stock parts but instead of plastic i want carbon or G10. here is what im thinking. the aluminum part of the raptor 60. that goes on the side of the frame. if u can make a pair out of aluminum or g10 for my raptor 50 v2. i prefer aluminum because i like the aluminum shinny look.

Carbon Sheeting

Hi Guys,

Has anyone tried using laser profile cutting on carbon or G10 sheeting and how well does it work? I figure if it works OK would be cheaper than miiling bits if you have to replace them on a regular bassis.

Thanks
