Those dampers are a pretty consistent and low mass molded part. Do your baseline fan balance without them. You can then put them in and check the final product. I've never seen the one piece dampers throw a fan out of balance that was OK before their installation.

Ben,

Should I go ahead and balance the fan without the dampeners. After balanced it and put the dampeners back on and re-check it again. Am I correct.

Thanks
Eddie

When I build the F.E. I tought the fan was pre balanced, so it is or not?... My F.E in , ralenti (low idle) has a vibration but I thought was the YS 80 it has 8 tanks thru, what do you think Ben? I must go for the balance of the fan? ( I have a balancer now)... What about the rotor head balance did you have a problem???

The answer is NO; neither the ali fans nor the plastic ones with ali hub come prebalanced. They are often fairly close, but I've seen and had a few that were nowhere near OK to run without some balance work.

I wouldn't sweat the smoothness of the idle of a new engine too terribly much, but you ought to CLOSELY look at the fuel and extremities (fins, etc) when in hover for any signs of fuel foaming or buzzing. Those are indicators of a high frequency vibration problem. If I were in your shoes, I'd sleep easier after pulling the fan and confirming the balance.

MA heads are symmetrical by design and generally do not need to be balanced alone. You need to do the flybar, of course. And match your blades appropriately.

P.S.:

Remember that a poor dial indicating job of the cooling fan can mimic the symptoms of a poorly balanced fan. God forbid you have both situations at the same time.

Thanks Dr. Ben
When is in Low IDLE just after the start... holded in the root of the boom you feel a high frecuency vib... so my dial is 0.001 on the fan, I think is the balance of the fan.... So I will unmount the engine, remove the damper (0546-16) and take the fan in the balancer and remove a little aluminium from the fan in the heavy side....
By the way it doesn't foam the fuel...

I guess I got lucky. My fan was out of balance but the addition of one Radio Shack GV-1 magnet in a carefully chosen spot made it perfect.

Cheers
