Fury main gear noise

After I put my YS91 in, I changed my gearing from 8:45 to 8:18.
And with the new gears I am getting a high pitch whine/noise, from what I think is the new main gear. Could this be normal, or some kind of gear mesh problem?

I have run about 10 tanks on the new gear with no sign of abnormal wear. I thought it would break in and go away, but the whine is still there.

Previously I had a Hatori one piece pipe on a YS80, and never noticed the noise. Now I have the MP2. Is it possible the noise has always been there, and I just did not hear it. Is the pipe noise quieter with the MP2?

Is there another possible cause that would sound like the gear being noisey?

Thanks for any help and advice you have!

Hi Glenn I wonder if it could just be the gear noise and now with the lower rpm you are hearing the gear more now and less engine noise?

Ya I noticed the samething when I first bolted the mpll on from a ksj muffler. I thought something was wrong because I could here the gears so much more. Add to that a low gear ratio and it maybe what you are hearing. The fury already has a cool gear sound with the 8.45 ratio

I would still check it over good though you never know it could be something else.

I think it's the sound of a Fury asking for the next UPGRADE

can confirm similar expereince from going down to 8.18 from 8.45 on my Pro2 with YS80. But i love 8.18 sound more than 8.45.

Wait for a a gallon or few of fuel. Those gears are still getting aquainted. That whine is not unusual, even with an optimum mesh. Straight cut gears (vs. helical) always make some noise, and you'll hear it more because the engine is turning a fair amount slower.
