i was wondering if anyone can help me in what the strange noise is that is coming from the main gear while hovering. like a scratching noise. sounds like balls racing around. This is a new kit with less than a gallon through it. I asked someone at the field and he said that his does it too. nothing to worry about. but i feel it is a concern. does anyone one have any ideas on what it could be. i checked over the whole heli and found nothing wrong. but then when hovering the scratchy noise comes back. please let me know ....... thanks

Could be your clutch touching the top of the bell. This happens if your fan has unscrewed a bit as a result of trying to start a hydrolocked engine.

The tail rotor gears on the R60 are very noisy, and due to the constant changes by the gryo to keep the tail in one place they will make some strange noises.

The Raptor is noisy. I did have a new one with a badly warped main gear. It sounded like something was binding up, and it was. If the main shaft is very tight, you might want to look very close at the gear and mesh. Look at the other suggestions as well.

I think we need to classify all the raptor noises. We have strange and weird on the board now. Of course there is the waa-waa’s. Maybe a complete dictionary on Raptor noises

Noise

I have the same noise sounds like a jet engine running up with a high pitch whine. I think it is because my clutch is hitting the top of the bell so I removed the washer under the fan for better clearance and installed a metal fan at the same time. I should be able to test it today or tomorrow and let ya know if the noise stopped.

My R60 doesn't make much noise, but another guy at the field has a R60 that he bought all set up from an online retailer and that thing is very noisy (From the gear mesh).

the gear mesh is not binding in anyway, it is very smooth. the clutch bell is not touching the gear either. i do have an os 61 engine with the metal cooling fan on it. This noise started about after 4 flights with it. i see that other people are getting that same noise. i am asking , do you think it is safe to fly with that noise.

Noise

Maybe it is your start shaft not being lubed? I had that problem on a shuttle plus.
