I heard one of the "names" uses a Pmix so that as rudder is applied the gyro gain also increases with a P-mix so as to increase pirrouette rate consistancy.

Anyone else out there tried this and what results did you see?

Also how much of a gain increase is needed to show any real benefit, if any.

Cheers, Will.

hey good idea.... PMIX with gyro and rudder.... I will try ....could be a big crazy IDEA
I think is as flollow:
PMIX
rudder to gyro
could be anything that you want
mut be a negative mix.... I mean more rudder less gain in order to improve the fast piro and extreme head lock on no rudder input.

Well i think 9z GODS will illuminate Us

head lock gain 85- 90

and total left right 10 could be fine.... isn't it?

I use it on my raptor 50. It mixes so as you input rudder the gain goes down. I think I have it set around 30-40%. When I flip the switch for the mix and hold the rudder to one side, it becomes a spinning blur. I really can't believe it doesn't come apart. I really don't know what you would use it for except that one manuever, but it is pretty cool. Make sure everything is mounted very securely. By the way some of the older fliers around here said they used to do this on there old rate gyros to get decent piro rates, so I guess it's not a real new idea.

I don't see much use for rudder to gain mix. all new gyros that I have seen are rate demand gyros. ie. your rudder stick askes the gyro to rotate the heli at the demanded speed. The old gyros on the other hand would opose the pilot rudder input, but most of these do not have a gain control input. I think Futaba made only one gyro with variable gain before the moved to heading hold with rate demand.

That would be true for reducing gyro gain but Will is talking about increasing it away from neutral.

The reason why you might want to do this is on gyro's that suffer badly at holding constant piro rates when the gyro gain is fairly low and where the built in algorithm interacts too heavily with the gyro gain
figure and can't compensate enough by quickly/accurately adding/reducing the tail pitch enough in HH mode until the piro rate matches the commanded yaw
.It's possible to have a tail that locks solid with large tail blades and a high tailspeed (which usually means less achievable gyro gain). But is complete pants at holding the piro rate even during fixed rudder input commands when the heli is either travelling at speed while piro'ing or is being hit by a strong wind or both.

CSM HH gyro's were always very good at holding an even piro even with lowish gain figures (if the rest of the mechanical setup was good) whereas some of the Futaba and JR HH offerings were lacking

Footaba understood what I meant.

Since nobody knows then I might have to give it a try next time I go out flying to see if it makes any real difference.

Cheers, Will.
