I have a Futaba 8U TX and a Futaba 401 gyro.

I have my gyro sensitivity connected on channel 5.

If I change channel 5's ATV then I understand that this changes the gain
(50%+ = HH and 49%- = Rate etc).

However, my TX also has a GYRO function where I can set the sensitivity.

How does GYRO and Channel 5 interelate.

How should I use these - should it be one or the other or both.

For example if I have the ATV set to 80% and the GYRO set to 80% does this mean that the gain is set at 64% (e.g. 80% of 80%)

Cheers,

Nigel

I have the same set up in my Raptor 50, I ignore the channel 5 ATV and set the gyro sensitivity for each flight condition from the GYRO settings in the advance menu.

CH 5 ATV's

FinnDave

Do you go ahead and set the ATV's to the max.
I have a 9 CHP and they will go to 140.

Usually you control the gyro gain from Ch. 4 on your 8U. Then Ch. 5 is the pirouette rate you want. I don't like to adjust the gain from the gyro menu because the way the radio is programmed it tries to see and use the ATV setting while being told another thing by the gyro sense screen. I was told this by a very experienced heli pilot. I just noticed this when I switched to a 9Z WCII recently. I set-up my heli so that I had the gyro sense screen activated. The heli was drifting and I could'nt figure it out. I went and inhibited the gyro sense and adjusted gain via the ATV and the gyro stopped drifting. Just a little tip.

I haven't touched the ATVs for channel 4 or 5 in my Raptor, I use only the GYRO settings and the 401 works fine. I am not a 3D flier so I am not pushing the gyro very hard, but it holds the tail well through all normal aerobatics including 560 degree stall turns and limited inverted flight.

I simply followed the instructions that came with the gyro and flew, I haven't touched it since!

well at the risk of sounding like an idiot.....the whole damn concept Why is it better to use atv then sens.? Sensitivity is just that, were atv is the length of total movement, so Im not creating a model in my head of why its better although im running this way because Eric has made it so

Set your rudder atv to control your piro rate.Channel 5 switches between HH and non HH and gain for both modes.

Gyro sense screen and ATV control the same thing, BUT when the gyro sense is activated the ATV is still activated. So the radio tries to see both things and it gets confused. It is just easier and lessens the possiblity of the gyro drifting. Using the ATV is just the best way to do it. Simple, effective and works everytime!

P.S. Notice how I say, "lessens the possibility of the gyro drifting". I have seen gyros work well with the gyro sense screen, but not all the time. It sometimes varies with radios and gyros.

thanks Al, i know that .......
Let me try again...Why is it better to use the gyro atv, then to just use the gyro sensitivity? If you dont use this set up, then you cant answer, I belive that Tappy uses this set up and thats why i've asked him!!!!

ok, Its becoming clearer.......
I understand now that essencially the two would fight each other, hense "hunting/drifting" but why is it easier and more effective to use the ATV

Well, I guess it's not really easier because you still gotta go into the menu and fiddle with it, but it is more effective for gyro performance. Here is a good thread to read. Some good and very imformative info posted by Ben Minor on the subject.
