hmm

I thought it would cost more. It is steep..but since it is a passion I would spend that =P But I am going to wait at least 8 months. Does this price include everything I need to get into the air save radio/gyro? Also, I would be using kerosene as fuel?

Hmm

Well it is still 8 months away. Also will this engine add to the price? $5000 for me would be an upper limit for a trainer!

What if the price drops

Hey all,

What if some others come along and you start seeing the Turbines at around $3500 price point (Thunder Tiger???). Still expensive, but your starting to reach the upper end of the Glow machines with the Caliber and the Extreme's. Not all that unreasonable if you put a scale fuse around it.

Jeez, even the AMA's publication will have to resign to giving us a Jet heli section, might as well ask for an electric heli article as well...

Don't stop there, do I hear rubber band heli's anyone? ;-)

Ya can't put a price on a good time! Can't wait for that turbine powered Raptor T1!!!

Good Judgement comes from Experience. Great Judgement comes from Bad Experience.

R60fan, thats like saying "who would ever buy a Ferrari. My Metro gets me where I want to go. If I was ever to spend $100K on a car I hope someone would commit me."

You guys are all stuffing bigger engines into little helis to try and get more perfomance out of them, and the turbine has power to spare.

Its like flying your park flyer around and saying who wants a turbine powered F4. Some people like big and powerful and will spend the money. I have no ambition to do anything else with my money, I have either done it all or have no interest in doing it.

You mean this one?

I have something a little more modern and much much faster, but only English guys and maybe some European enthusiasts would know what it is

I didn't say I was against other things, I said either I didn't want to do them or I had done them. Now I am content to collect my tickets in a minivan

I know if I learned to fly, I would then want a heli, and I know I wouldn't want a cheap old heli, I would want an expensive one, which I KNOW I can't afford, so I stave off temptation and do my flying from the front seat of a 747.

That leaves me plenty of money to indulge my passion for scale helis which are as close to the real thing as I can get them, and if they have a turbine in them, then my model has to have one too.

My turbine Lama has about $17k invested in it. There's no way any rational person can justify that, until you consider my partner has just bought a boat for $1/4M to go fishing with.

If I dont spend it now, my daughter will do it for me when I'm gone.

I knew a british guy would have a british car . I have one of those chryslers also except it a T&C and I agree it sure didn't stop the tickets or the speed .
I was leaving Vancouver BC a while back and that minivan suprised me how good it drove at 115mph. (passing a Zcar that didn't want to be passed)

I hate to disagree with you optikaman; but, on the 1 to 10 cool scale the turbines are about a 73!

My buddy Bill Ludwig just got one and the smile hasn't left his face for two weeks! He's going to wear it out just starting it up at his shop!

Enjoyment is what this hobby is all about. Most all hobbies are expensive and really can't be justified from a "practicle" or "need" viewpoint. You set your priorities and go with them! If you have the budget for turbines you won't be disappointed!

I think Turbines will come into there own when the cost of the engine drops to the $1500-1000 range. Right now I can honestly say it ain't happenin for lots.

To me this is not a Ferrari vs Geo thing. This is all about technology cost. The Technology will cause prices to drop and people will buy them when they can afford them.

Provided I stay in this hobby for as long as I think I will, I'm sure some day I will own a turbine or Li powered machine. I just will let others be at the for front of the tech bunch and let them absorb the costs of improving the technology. It has worked for me in the PC industry. I hope it works here to.

FWIW, I smile when I hover my Sceadu upside down. It's all about what ever makes you happy I guess.

Anyone notice the present day cost of a plasma screen tv?

Yeah, I saw a 19" at best buy if I remember right it was around $3000. Keep in mind these are wide screen so a 19" is more like a 13" regular tv the screen is pretty small.

Thats an odd one Waldo. My 42" plasma screen cost me $15000.

Now they give them away with the tops off 4 cornflake packets, but I just HAD to have one

I remember a long time ago being offered a red LED digital watch for the equivalent of about $1500. Those they do give away.
