Not to step on anyones toes, but wasn't general non-heli related discussion the reason the Off Topic Thread was created in the first place?

Not that i am encouraging political debate (although i find it interesting), but i reckon given the numerous different people that represent the Runryder Community, a wide variety of opinions (READ: OPINIONS!!) can be aired. It is nice to know what our particular cross section of the population of the world thinks about things other than Helis, i mean Jesus, we know each other's prefence on underpants!!

The proposition that this is a heli forum and should be only about heli's is perhaps not so reasonable considering we do discuss a wide variety of other topics on this forum, politics being only one of them. As an online community, an exchange of general ideologies and thoughts is inevitable.

Given that most thread started recently have been civil, cept maybe for the few posts targeted at the french (heheheh), and the silly chap from Sweden egging on the carnage, i reckon we are doing pretty well.

Safecracker, i am not at all dissing you in any way for starting this thread, i know the intent is well meant. Just thought i'd chime in my thoughts.

Pars.

See...this is a civilized discussion, and I like reading it
Politics are part of life.
I like the ability to jump from a controversial subject (in which I might be getting a flogging in, considering my most recent reply ) to helping somebody out on a problem that I have encountered and found a solution to, or somebody else helping me.
The idea that I have a tit for tat with a person in regards to politics and then chat with him in a friendly helpful way on the next subject, is probably the most appealing factor of it all.
It shows that we can all think for our selves and proof that a common interest can bring us together no matter what nationality.
I better stop as I think I am starting to ramble on a bit now

Black sheep, down

There are enought interesting things in the RC field to discuss with out getting into the political arena.
Three laywers and a state legislator in the family, I should know.

Safecracker, sorry about the earlier slam, Bob Gates was/is/has been a tremendous help. When I was getting started, he spent a lot of time and gratiously offered his help and advice. I consider him an asset to the forum.
You hit a soft/sore spot.
I apoligize.

Thanks, Flyboy

I find it completely amusing when someone says that they hate "having to read' a post of whatever topic. It implies that somehow they are being forced to read it. Or maybe compelled to read each and every post on the forum.

Put simply, if you don't want to read something, don't read it. And that includes this post of mine. Of course if you just read that then it's too late.

I feel the off topics area is great. It allows RR members to see what other members think, do, and feel. It gives us a place to vent or share with people we consider peers. As long as it is kept civil, I think any topic should be allowed in an off topic thread - that is why its called off topic. Just my 02 cents.
