T-REX 450 › Is the 450 SE V2 that much better than the old XL

Okay, here is my dillema, I have an old 450XL and a 600E. I was out flying the XL today after a long break and managed to hit the house and smack it onto my deck. Most of the problem stemmed from trying a new 3153 servo and resultant nose heavy result from the light servo. Anyway, I have some broken parts to repair, probably 50 dollars or so and am debating whether I should just pay the 425 or so at REadyheli for a new SE V2 or continue to fix this thing. I am about fed up with how the servos fit in the XL and also how they seem to make it nose heavy. I have also heard that the SE tends to break less parts as the aluminum is pretty strong. So is it really that much better? My 600E flys pretty smooth, this thing not so smooth. I'm not a pro pilot by any means, but I can fly okay on the simulator and usually can fly half way decent outside when the heli isn't acting up on me. Just getting to the point where I'm wondering if throwing more and more money into this bird is getting pointless.

Anyway, here is what I have now.

450XL
420 motor (yes that isn't a typo)
25amp align esc (again, not a typo)
hs 65 carbonite servos X3
Gy401 and futaba 3153 servo.
Dx6 receiver
dx6 transmitter(currently using)
Dx7 transmitter I am using for the 600E and will probably use for this heli as well.

Apex 3s 2100 packs, X4. Yes I know they suck and I'm waiting for them to blow up so I can buy more.

So, I assume my electronics will drop into the 450SE and the new motor and esc should blow the apex packs in a flight or two. The align pack that it comes with I assume will be okay for some flying?

What is the difference in performance? would I be able to do stationary flips? It takes a lot of control with the combo now to do a flip let alone a stationary one.

And finally, how is the new tail compared to the old one?

The V2s Combo is much more powerfull than the kit and components you say you have currently. There have been several improvements, in tr ratio, head design and overall function. Or... you wait a month and get the 500 rex I guess.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

My first heli was an XL and the Se v1 blew that away when I got my second heli.. I would strip it down and use the parts for spares and get the SE. I fly mine in my yard all the time and my neighbors don't even know I'm out there.... It's small, quick, and will do flips all day long...

Tom..... No "D" flying....

You could drop the 430XL and at least a 35 amp ESC, along with some 20C or 25C battery packs and really liven up your XL. Remember, before the SE came out, the XL was THE heli to have, and it was being wrung out by the best. There's probably nothing the SE can do that the XL can't.

Yes, the SA/SE are much better overall, but a properly set up XL ain't no slouch.

The 430XL will eat your Apex batteries for lunch, and probably not even burp.

if I don't go full bore with the 430XL, will I be able to make the batteries work? I plan to buy new ones anyway, just curious if I can reduce the throttle a bit or not use as much pitch until I get to that point.

I know the XL is not a bad heli. It does suffer from placement issues making the balance harder to iron out. The tail is also getting quite sloppy as is the head. I can drop in the motor and speed control, but at around 90 dollars, plus the other parts, I'm just debating on whats the best move overall.

Your 25ESC will be pushing it with the 430XL. Your LiPo should be OK with the 12T. I fly mine with the 12T on 16C 2100mAh Align LiPos with 150+ cycles on, no problems doing flips, loops and sport flying. Pack temperatures can get to around 45 to 48 degress C (I think safe limit is around 55 degrees C).

Attached is Eagletree data on one of the packs just hovering, punch outs and piros.

If you get the full CNC verison I would recommend you to get the plastic block sets to replace the tail pulley blocks. It's a b??ch to get them off the bearing. Main bearings are easier as they don't break as easy as the tail pulley bearings.

You'll have tail heavy problems with the SE also, especially if you use a S9650. If you buy the Kongpower Lipos it will make balance perfect.

I should have been more clear in my post above. I was talking about making the batteries last with the 430XL motor. I would be using the ESC that comes with the SE V2 not my old 25 amp. Its good to hear that the batteries I have could potentially work for a bit. I"m using a 3153 servo now so hopefully no tail heaviness if I go this route.
