Hope some of you guys making your own mounts know of a supplier for black G10 (1/16 AND 3/32) Cannot find anyone selling it on the web??

Would love graphite but for mockups the G10 is a lot cheaper, but ugly.

Mcmaster Carr is where I bought mine. They have it at very resonable prices too.

I've purchased black G10 from McMaster. I've also purchased the light green stuff and painted it with textured black Krylon.

Do you have to have a cnc type cutting machine to cut G10?? I see alot of people with homemade camera mounts and I'm pretty sure not all of them have cnc machines. Could you use say a standard band saw or jig saw?

I would love to design some type of mount one day... but have always have been skeptical because I thought you can only cut it using a cnc type machine. I do however understand how much easier it would be to cnc it if you are doing several.

What type of programs do you use to design mounts/helicopter pieces? I know there are some CAD programs out there, but what would you say "most" people use? Most of the CAD programs run around 3-6 hundred dollars huh...

I use a combination of 80" bandsaw, scroll saw, 12" disc grinder (80 grit), dremel, and a 3" sanding mandrel chucked up in my variable speed drill press to fabricate G10 and carbon parts.

I've been drooling over some CNC router tables but at $10K for a good setup I'm holding out a bit

Wow that's very interesting! I definitely thought your design was built by a CNC machine! Definitely gives me hope.

How did you design it? Just on paper or with a computer program? I have zero experience with either, but want to tinker around and see what I can come up with (personal items).

What is the average thickness of the pieces you were using?

Sorry for all the questions.

I just cut some G10 plate on a table saw and chop saw with great results.

jig saw also works.

if you're speaking of my RaptorCam mounts I made last year then yes, I had those CNC cut by MJP Carbon. I submitted some CAD drawing I did and they cut them for me.

The thicknesses I use most are .062", .080, and .090"

I draw all my stuff up in Adode Illustrator and export to .dxf for CNC work.
