I am a newbie and buiding a 450SE V2.
This may be a silly question or i may have over looked something.

I have the main shaft the correct way up with head fitted.
I slide main shaft into bearings and fit main gear.
I slide collar down to reach top bearing to stop up/down play.

When i slide the collar down it leaves the area on the main shaft that is slightly notched/recessed.
I presumed the collar went there to locate grub screw. If the collar is left there the main shaft rises up/down.

Have i missed something here.

Are you sure you don't have the main shaft installed upside down? The holes on the ends are different--one is 4mm from the end, the other 5mm. The hole 4mm from the end is where the main gear goes. Installing the 4mm hole there will displace the "notch" upward from where it should be.

If something hasn't broken on your helicopter, it's about to!

murph,

Are you sure you installed the washer/spacer that goes between the main gear and the tail drive gear?

What goes up must come around

I have the shaft the right way for sure.the shaft is flush with the main gear at the bottom.
This recess/notch on the shaft ends up apx 1/2 inch above the collar when it sits on the bearing.

Murph,

The shaft could have been manufactured incorrectly, I've just measured a spare main shaft I have here, the recess should be around 52mm from the bottom, 60mm from the top, if not the shafts wrong.

I have got the head assembly on the desk now.I do not want to remove the head if i can,i have thread locked it.
Using calipers from the bottom of the shaft to the center of the hole(for main gear)is 3.87mm.
recessed portion, from bottom of shaft is 60mm.
The align logo has ALIGN reading down shaft.
Have i got it upside down or faulty shaft. This is a SE V2 KIT.

I competely missed this comment. If the recess is that high above the collar its upside down.
