just that there was a bit of a discussion going on as to the requirement to goop the ends of the regulator on the older version or capacitors could fall off or the wires break and cause a crash.
The new one seems to be a tidier unit.....just wondered how reliable.

thanks for the answers.

I have been flying the new one with out any problems at all. I had a problem with the old one but the new ones are holding up great. In fact I also put this in my synergy.

The 2 in 1 also has a built in glow ignitor. So not only is it a regulator it also fires the engine hence the 2 in 1 name.

I had a close call with the old one...

I was worried about it failing after doing all the mods that were suggested here to keep the wires from breaking of so I decided to land. I just could not focus. I pulled the canopy when I got home to check my setup and when I tilted the heli one of the capasitor fell out of the shink and the reg was dead. I like the unit but I an waiting to see if any issues pop up with this new one.

I have the old one on mine 55+ flights with no problems.
I also got scared reading all the the failure posts , the thing spend 2 weeks on the bench. After alot of reading i found it was the vibaration issues that were the problem.

I've been know to over do my hei builds.
the 2 in one fix was no different.

- glued caps to each other with ca glue
- main power wires changed to silicone wires
- deans ultra connector
- silicone wire for the glow lead (needed 1" longer for my installation)
- power wires were soldered on like the original but rolled over and back down the heat sink - 5 min epoxy'd to heatsink (in a grove)
- power wires were covered in 5 min and glued to the caps
- a bit more 5 min on the caps bridging to the board (give some support to the caps)
- rx power lead un soldered and resoldered 180 degrees to board (double backing onto board) up at a bit of an angle off board , swept back with and brought back out the unit.
- rx lead epox'd to board.
- A small piece of fuel tube on each lead where it exits the board.
- reshrink the unit with a little longer piece of shrink.

In the end it's not coming apart, the fuel tube is a way of the shrink wrap to provide a vibration relif to the wire and prevent a vibration cut.

The switch end has another piece of shrink put on , 90 degrees to the orginal , then some servo tape to seal it up.

With some creating along the way it took a few hours total. Included my picky looking and sizing rotuine.

All said and done though it's less time than i would have spent on a rebuild. I wanted the glo part , i find charging the glow clip an easy thing to forget for me.

I had a duralite 6v reg in there, bought it before the 2 in 1 (honestly speaking i'm not pro align electronics , my 600e has none , 600n has a west robtics stepdown) but i had no way of determining the voltage of the lipo and when i should change out the pack. And the glow was motivation to over build it.

Now if fromco or duralite made a 2 in 1 , i'd be first in line.

The one thing i don't like about the 2 in 1 still is that little switch on the remote board. If that little bugger fails ... game over. I've tested it by unplugging while it was on and that ribbon cord is a critital part also. It may be a bit extreme but i can live with me stuffing it but a $.25 switch failure will not make me smiley. I've done all i can buy mounting the rem board up high , sealed it up , and i'm carefull with the switch. Sadly , you need ask yourself how lucky you feel sometimes with this hobby.

I don't mind spending the time to get it right the first time. I will say i don't have any build issues and when it goes in, i did it (i know the deal)

Does anyone make a 2s lipo volt monitor ? That's something i'd like to see myself. Fromco/duralite with there failsafe regs are on the right path.

What we need is a 8v 611 gyro/servo combo , then we can run (spectrum) right off the 2s lipo , put a lipo volt monitor on there with a failsafe switch and i'd think that's going to be about as good as it gets.

I've never had a problem with the old one...even when someone at our field told me Align were working on a diode to counter the effects of the disturbance when using a 14MZ as I do.
Never had an issue with glitching and I've now put the old one on my Knight 50 and purchased the updated version for my Align Nitro.
So far so good

cant stop building them

hi

there are direct 8 v systems out there,, flying at my club , on a 600n,, got to use the new jr clyic servos and a step down for your gyro,, will need a big mah li-po cause those servos have a big draw, but at 8v 250 oz torque and a .05 speed ,you can live with getting a good li-po battery,,,wanna do this set up myself, but don't have the extra 440$ for the 4 jr servos..

Those servos maybe better suited for a 90+ sized heli.

I have 9451's @ 6V and with a tp3400 rec lipo, Im still limited to 10-12 safe flights.

What kinda amperes do they draw at an average load anyway?
