My friends crank in his Trex with a 1800 rpm headspeed broke the con rod webbing off. It never had a lean run nor was it overly rich. His has never been abused with 3d. It just broke with regular pattern flying.
Nothing was overtight it had never been wrecked either. It just broke.

Seems like the new Ys motors are a little prone to crank breakage. I could be wrong, but seeing as there are a few broken ones.

My question to the last two posters would be, how did you lock the crank when you put the flywheel/clutch on, and how tight did you crank it? Once again, the force of a lowland gorilla is not needed, and it would appear, that with the intake port in the front of the crank, that too much torque could damage the shaft, and cause it to fail there . . .

I for sure did not overtighten mine when I installed the fan hub. I made sure of this. My crankshaft rod has some defect in the metal I believe. Seems others are having the same problems of it breaking.

So much for the YS50. I guess I'll be sticking with my OS50 Hypers. At least engines and parts are readily available.

Well, when I get my YS50 back from repair, I'm stickign it back in my Nitro. For sure, its got WAY more power than a OS 50 Hyper, and once you get it tuned correctly, its supreme of all nitro engines.

Look at my gallery, and you see what power you can get from a YS50 tuned perfectly in my video of the year 2007.

The OS Hyper 50 can't even come close to the power seen in that video.

Parts are not an issue with YS engines. Can't say i ever heard of the OS developing holes in the top of the piston.

YS parts and service has every part for the YS engines, theres no issue to not buy one because of that. You are implying that parts are hard to get.

What sort of drugs are you on? I just want to be sure to steer clear of them, that's all.

Going by that video, you couldn't tune an engine if you had to and then you blew it up when you did.

The only difference in the OS and the YS is the nut at the end of the stick (or the needle), they make comparable power.

That's Funny Tmoore.

Hell, If you fly the 600N, replacing a crank every 75 flights is no big deal. After all, you can replace the Swash plate, clutch, dampeners, ball links and grips on the heli while your down for the crank !.

Just kidding guys Just Kidding.

I just ordered a YS50 today. This post is scaring me.

I don't have anything against the YS and I'm interested in trying one too, but this thread is scaring me as well.

I bet the percentage of bad YS50's is very, very low, probably like 1%-2%. I have two of my buddies OS Hyper 50's go bad also on their break in flights. It can happen to any engine.

Even though I had a problem with mine, I'd still pick a YS50 anyday of the week over a OS 50. I got an OS Hyper 50 in mine now, and it doesn't even have close to the power of YS. Can't wait to take it out and get my YS50 back.
