Have the heli 90% built, and just got the DX7.

But going from the Axe CP toy to this thing, I feel a bit in over my head! Does anyone have any links or insights on what to watch out for when setting up the DX7? The documentation is a bit weak, and I dont want to hose things up before I ever get off the ground.

Thanks,
B

I don't own a dx7 but the best thing to do is find someone with a trex and a dx7, and get there radio setup. Then when you copied there setup, you can adjust your tx to fit your needs. Just a thought, good luck. Jimmi

What do you need help with? I do agree that the instruction manual is lacking in some departments.

The Rays eCCPM and Electric Helicopter DVD series goes through every menu in the DX7 and setting up a trex.

You can also search for the Finless videos.

I recently set one up, aside from the normal stuff the one thing I think worth mentioning is endpoint/travel adjust. I think it comes up in the dx7 as epa or travel adjust... not looking at the radio atm can't say for sure. Leave that at 100 on both the left and right. It controls piro rate and should not be used to limit travel as the manual may leave you thinking.

Start in the heli section and work through it as you read, you should be able to pick out most of what is pertinent to you. Set the swash, eliminate any unwanted interaction, reverse a servo here or there. Program your curves. It seems intimidating but take your time and keep checking things out. It will look similar to the operation of the axe when your done.

Hey,

While I was at lunch, I noticed that the december issue of RC heli had a section called "dx7 programming made simple" or something to that effect. I believe there is a pic of Kyosho's Caliber 4 on the cover. Pick it up, should be on the shelves at your local store. Good explanations.

Take a look at this video about the DX7: http://www.helifreaks.com/showthread.php?t=28681

Here are the details of my setup for a TRex 450. These worked perfectly with a GY401 gyro. It's a tame setup -- no 3D flying.

If you fly 3D, you'll want to program you St-1 and St-2 modes to enable that.

Also, your sub trims will be different than mine, because they'll depend on how you set up your servos mechanically. I assume you've been using the Finless build videos to put your 450 together. But if not, take a look at them too, here: http://www.helifreaks.com/showthread.php?t=11373. One of them explains how to use the transmitter's sub trim feature.
