you can transfer purchases from your ipod to your computer.

go to your ipod setups and click manually manage music. it will then ask you if you want to transfer.

Seems easy to me (have done it many times) - plug in your ipod to the computer and find the Ipod as a disck drive via explorer. Then open it and remember to select view hidden files in options. You will see all the songs files in folders. Just drag and drop them back into My Music

you can do it. I did it Saturday.

my puter crashed this week and I ended up with a new one. all my songs from four different ipods are now on my new pc simply by switching to manual then transferring purchases. you will have to authorize the computer with I tunesthough but as i remember it prompts you for that

All of the music is contained within hidden folders in seemingly random order within the ipod. for "non-purchased" music you'll have to look in those hidden folders. The only problem is you'll have to reorganize your music into albums/bands and what not. there are other 3rd party apps that can "talk" nicely to your ipod and coax it into giving up it's songs in a more organized manner.

This is why the zune is gaining so much ground. I was givin an IPOD a year ago. Used it 3 days then threw it in the river. It was just too appleish for my tastes.

Ive owned a Nano, and a regular ipod with the scroll wheel. The one right before the Ipod video came out.

The nano is great and takes a lickin and keeps on tickin...

The regular ipod is another story. It never got close to the advertised playback time and the first two I had, the HDD's crapped out. the first Ipod I owned, the HDD crapped out after about 6 months. They sent a replacement for free and that came to my door with a crapped out HDD. The third one's HDD is on its way out and the screen cracked while in my pocket with just mykeys. I got into my car with it there and when I got out it was garbage.

the ipod is just not robust enough for its price tag...
