I have never seen one so I tried some today and....well....At least I didn't crash. But it was not pretty.

Just wondering....Anyone seen one done? Anyone do them?

What would be really cool is an inverted backwards auto with ending quarter flip followed by a half or full pyro and then level out and land.

Care to try?

Tony

PS -Extra points if you manage to cut grass before doing the quarter flip

Curtis did them at a funfly up here a while back. It seemed so weird to see a heli autoing towards you upside down, tail first. He would come in at a fairly he rate of speed, roll out at about 3 foot, and drag the front of the skids half the length of the runway. It was very impressive,

I've seen them done by quite a few pilots. Curtis, Chen Zarfati (sp?), Jared Granzow (TT Pilot) and I'm sure there are many others.

Manny Lalo says Manny Lalo can do it, just ask Manny Lalo, he'll tell you Manny Lalo can do it because he's Manny lalo.

Thats how I learned my inverted autos, flying towards me tail first inverted and then back flipping out to nose in upright.

Um? full piroflip from inverted would leave you inverted! pyro even.

I said piro, not piroflip

You come in inverted, tail first, pull back until bird is vertical (tail up now), half piruette (tail down now), level out and land. To make things more interesting, you could do a 540 turn.

I'll post video of them as soon as:

1. They don't look like crap and I don't have to clean out my pants after each one.

2. I find a guy willing to video.

3. I learn how to post that video online.

The real hold up is #1, but I'm gonna claim that I can't find anyone with a camera

I had never seen one...But the idea poped into my head last night...So I went to the field today and tried them. The video of todays attempts would not be worth watching, OK, they might be funny to watch.

you're supposed to post the bad and the good so we can see the progression of perfection!

I'm going to the field tomorrow since the weather is going to be great, and try my first inverted (nose first) autos.I'll probably roll or flip out while still 40' up and the flip hold off till I'm comfortable with the approach and flip...

It's gunna be ugly, but I'll see if anyone is there to film.

If I recall... Manny actually DID say something about a backwards inverted auto. He edited all his posts so it can't be quoted but thought I read it in one of his posts

Alex Rodreguez started doing it this summer,he brings the heli down on his right nose out, he flips nose up with a half twist, then a slide to his left, then lands at his feet, very cool, he seems to have trouble keeping up the head speed sometimes to complete the manuever, and has clipped the grass with tail rotor a few times.

Well I broke my vertical tail fin off today doing an auto.. The tail was sticking straight up in the ground.. Will load pics after I eat dinner! Of course my camera woman wasn't filming... she was taking the day off to enjoy watching me fly with her own eses instead of through the camera.
