I put a Hyper 50 in my xcell 46 graphite. It has the 60 head on it and my head speed is out of the roof. What gearing do I need with this set up? Anyone help?

Like how "out of the roof"? That head will stand rotor speeds of 2000-2200 all day long d/t the 60 sized components used in the head. The problem with going to a gear ratio in the upper 9's to lower the head speed per unit of engine rpm is that you push the engine way off its power band.

Can you not throttle curve, rev limit, or govern the engine for a more sensible head speed?

just counted my teeth and the main gear is 90 with a 9 pinion. I have a rev max on it and dialed it down to 2030 on the head speed but my engine doesn't seem to be working hardly at all. This is only my second gas heli so I'm not real sure what to look for.

90 x 9 gears = 10to1 ratio x 2030 = 20300 motor speed. That's kinda high.

you need to be closer to 8.5 to 1 my nitro razor is at 8.72:1. the power band on the hyper50 is at 17000motor rpm. also what color main gear are you running? also you will have to go to the 11 tooth pinion.

Well, at 8.5 to 1 2050 hs = 17425. A good ratio for this motor.
At 9 to 1 2050 hs = 18450. Also fine for the Hyper.
I run 8.5 at 2150 hs = 18275.
Anywhere between 8.5 and 9 to 1 should work fine.

it's been a while since i used those black gears dont remember what tooth count you can get them in. 93 main with 11 pinion will put you at 8:46. do you have the metal or carbon frames?

graphite 46

9.6 was indeed the stock ratio with that model. The 93,94,95, and 96 tooth gears are no longer available from MA. He doesn't have the option for an 11 t pinion unless he retrofits the model for the SE99 clutch bell assembly and clutch with its screw in pinion. The pinion in the 46 clutch bell is pressed; no pressed in 11 t pinions have ever been made by MA.

What would be my choices? Should I just put my 46 back in it and forget about trying the Hyper? Or can I make this work somehow without spending alot of money ?

Well, you could stretch the boom for a fairly modest price and run a fairly wide chord 620mm blade. With +/- 10-11 degrees you ought to be able to keep the engine loaded and have good performance with the head speed dialed back to around 1900. That puts the engine back into its rpm range.

I have a graphite 46 with the OS 50 and im using a 11/95 ratio with the 60 constant drive system. I can run 1850 or 1900 HS without overreving the engine. I was using Radix 600 blades and seem to load it pretty well.

I have already extended the boom on it. Where can I get the 11/95 ratio setup?

Those are the 60 sized parts that MR10X is using in his model. The bearing block for the clutch is a first generation version, which is OK as long as you are careful not to overtighten the screws. The bell is the one that accepts the screw in pinions.

If you are using the standard clutch I should be fine.
