I'm new to this site. I have a Lepton kit that I never got the chance to build but now that I have extra funds, I was thinking of building it. But now with the T rex 500 about to come out, I'm torn with what to do. Should I build the Lepton or wait. I know about the tail issues with the Lepton, but it is such a nice heli. Also, I'm sure the T rex 500 will have better support. Help!!

I vote to build the Lepton dude. The 500 not out yet and it will have its problems for sure. There is plenty of support for the Lepton, build on dude.

Wait for the Trex500. For two long-term reasons: parts will be readily available and they will be cheaper.

I agree with waiting on the 500

I liked the lepton but to me its overpriced. Im not sure what the pricing will be on the 500 but going by other align helis it should be less than the lepton. If I was not such an impulse buyer I would have waited myself instead of getting the Lepton. I ended up selling it after a couple of weeks. Problem was I had the bug again so I ended up getting an SE V2 to satisfy my need. So now I will not be able to get the 500 immmediately

I've had the Lepton for more than a year now and I'd wait for the 500. The Lepton is quite tame, no matter how aggressive you try to make it. My 450 SE V2 (or VI for that matter) is more aggressive than the Lepton. The only question is, "what are you going to do with that extra Lepton kit?". The 500 should prove to be a very responsive 3D heli. I think the Lepton shines in FF. 3D is another story. I never got it to how my other helis fly.

I guess a question I would ask is what are you flying now and in the past. That may help people choose a path for you to take.

I guess more people like the T rex better. I have been flying my
T rex V2 for about 8 mos. now. I'm not really into hard 3D mainly because I can't. I end up crashing too much even on the sim. I'm more of a sport flyer doing loops, rolls, inverted forward flight and such. Not real agressive with the sticks.

If I build the Lepton , I'm thinking of a 5S setup using: Kora 15-?, Jazz 80, Evo 20 3700mah 5S, Airtronics 94761 for cyclic and GY401/9254 for the tail. The way I see it is; I already have the kit so I should at least try it right? If I don't like it, then I'll just swap the electronics over to the T rex 500. That setup would also work on the T rex right? Thanks

I am using the Kora 15-14 on 6s on my Lepton but 5s works good too. It should be a good machine for you. I'd say just build the Lepton and sport fly it. It flies so nice. You really won't need to get a TRex 500 unless you start getting into more aggressive 3D.

Build the Lepton! I have had Trex 450, and currently fly a 600e and 600n. But I think the Lepton is one cool heli. Pride of ownership is worth something to me and the Lepton is a gem. DocJoe is right on saying it is a little tame, but it is super groovy and handles sweet. I definitely agree with the recommend to get 5s if you want big power. Read the threads and check out the Freak too. It is hard to get big power on 4s. Mine is a rocket on 4s Kora 15-14 if I keep it moving but it bogs on big collective moves. Too bad I bought 3 4s packs allready... As for running pairs of Trex 450 packs in the 500, I don't think so. It would be smart to get a motor and battery system you could put in a 500 though, just being sensible. Call Readyheli if you build it, they have parts and scoop, definitely get the bigger tail blades and consider the in frame mounts for a full size tail servo. You know you want it
