Hi, I have 125 fantastic flights on my Trex600 with belt.
I'm thinking of getting the torque tube for improved reliability (belts break) and smoothness.
It is worth it? Any downsides, besides cost?
Thanks!

Besides the difference in cost to fix it, I dont really see any huge performance gain at all. Im actually debating whether or not to go back to the belt just so I dont have to replace the gears everytime I crash (kinda sucks).

Spoken like a true heli-nut . Welcome to the torque tube club! It's nice not having to worry about belt tension but landings are harder on the TT gears and you may find yourself replacing them a lot. Just get the 3 pack of front gears (in gray) which will save you a little money. That one seems to break most often.

You will notice the difference when doing autos! with a 2 1/2 hp motor churning away, not so much... I did have a crash landing with boom strike recently when my e motor chewed thru my main gear on an auto bailout. All I needed to fix it was a new boom and shaft, again, not so much... The Radix cost me though!

Torque Tube Advice.........

One thing I did that helped me a bit to save the gears is buy longer bolts for the rear landing gear and add a quarter inch of small washers between the bottom plate and the landing gear. This jacks up the ass end of the heli and helps a bit by keeping those blades higher than normal. Another suggestion is to keep your tail blades loose in the grips so if you do come in with the ass low, at least you stand a chance of not stripping the tt gears. As stated above, buy the three pack of replacement gears and forget about the belts. Hope some of this helps out.
Respectfully,
Ed

I just took my TT off. I put the belt back on. I was tired of buying 16.99 tubes because of warping. At high HS the warped tube make serious vibrations.

I have a used but great condition TT setup if you want. Ill take Paypal and ship usps.

If you are happy with the belt stick with it.

Hi All,

Just wanted to thank you guys for this post. I was just about to order a TT for my 10S 600E that I'm just putting together now. So if I read you right, the TT:

- Costs $110
- Is not as durable
- Weighs 3 ounces more than the belt drive (got this from another post.

Posts like these make RR well worth the money. Oh yeah, it's free... Woohoo!

Keep 'em flying.

Kinda notice after a while that when it comes to helicopters, if you're considering "upgrading", you've already made up your mind.

It's only money!!
Seriously though, all of what was said thus far is very tru. IMHO, I really like the performance gained when doing autos. In addition, it is just mechanically a better design!!
