I used between 5mm - 6mm hole from center with my 9650. It's with a Futaba GY401 gyro and it works great. The servo is really fast and I didn't need anymore leverage on the servo arm....That distance was a compromise for the tail linkage to move stop to stop and still be within the 401's sweet spot of around 80-90% limit setting(with normal servo endpoints).

" Well, Um.... it's fixable......"

thanks for reply ,, I'm using the 401 also.. that short from hole to hole.. wow I was thinking it would be around 10mm

now I'm trying to figure out what tail push rod set up I want to go with.. I have the little carbon rod set up but dont like the z bend deal. so i adapted rod and added link.. bu I dont like the single rod guide under the horizontal fin either.. I want a straight shot down the boom. and not sure if I trust making up a 4mm rod and no guide.

Lol the 9650 is not really fast at all! The servo is torquey enough to use between 10-12 mm servo arm length and reduce the gyro limits, this effectivly speeds the servo travel time up because it doesn't have to travel as far. I swapped my 9650 for a 9257 which is much faster and still use 8mm servo arm length and gyro gain is at 92%!

I use 8mm on both the 9650 and 9257.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

the best way is to center your servo and center your tail hub assey then see where your rod comes to with both links on it and where ever it ends up with a straight shot to your tail thats the distance you need
