How many of you have had any issues at all with your crown gear and drive pinion for the torque tube? I am curious to know this.

The only problems I've had were on impact.

I don't own a MA machine, but it might help if you indicated what type of "issue" you are looking for. Is an "issue" if somebody strips the crown gear due to setting the mesh incorrectly?

Do you have the pinion support bearing?

If you set up the heli correctly(mesh), yo shouldn't have any problems. I've had my gear stripped a couple of times. I was however due to crashes.

Just do it.

I noticed that you need to stay on top of the mesh pretty well during initial gear break in, because it tends to loosen up a bit after 2-3 flights. Once it's reset it stays there for the most part. I fly hard 3d and I have yet to strip any gears in the air doing piroflip or piro tic toc reversals. They are pretty tough, and I've only seen crashed gears or improper mesh's cause issues.

all crown gears will have a low and a high spot. set a bit tight at the high spot and you will be fine after a few flights also if you have that brass spacer loose it.

I chipped a tooth off the crown gear once with a reverse piro. This crown gear was in a crash but looked good. I put a new one on and have not had a problem with reversing piros since then.

I guess that is what I was looking for. I know that I had set the mesh correct but after 18 flights it gave on me a little. It didn't go all the way but enough that if I piro too hard I can hear that it is skipping accross the top of the gear.

I was concerned because when I got my Stratus, one tooth on the pinion was about 15 thou wider than the rest. I went through 3 crown gears before I found that one. I will put the new gear on and see how it goes.

Thanks to all.

Make sure the top collar on the main doesn't slip,it will let the crown gear move away from the pinion with negative pitch and strip the crown gear. A friend of mine tightened the collar like the instructions stated and it sliped causing the gear to strip. I always set a new crown gear a little tight when seting it up initally because it will loosen up very quickly and become very smooth.DOUG
