Ya know if doing a search is so easy instead of posting for a person to do a search, how about if we take that one second to do one and give the person atleast one example of the search we did. The "Do a Search" posts seem rude and just not very nice in my opinion.

This has been brought up numerous times by other concerned individuals such as yourself. Do a search to view those posts.

Anyone anal enough to snivel about it isn't someone whos opinion I value. Especially with a noob who just hasn't learned his way around yet.

Sounds like alot a posts from people that are guilty of it themselves.

Anyway what would be wrong with "Try as search next time, this is what I've found"??

Sometimes its a good thing to bring a subject back up - you get new fresh ideas and suggestions. The do a search posters are rude, plain and simple. What does it hurt to bring it back up again?

I still miss a "search this forum" link, Im browsing a forum and want to search, then I have to search and then select the forum again... annoying extra step which would probably take away quite a few double posts.

But I agree, I rather cut and paste the answer then post "do a search"

If I am in a bad mood, then I'll simply imply that someone do a search. If I am not in a good mood but not in a bad mood either (somewhere in between) then I'll provide direction to start a search as in the above picture. If I am in a good mood and have a good feeling about the person asking the question then I'll provide direction, imply that they do a search and then provide them with the search as I have done it...

The main thing though for me anyways, is that a newheliman will get the benefit of the doubt and be treated as option 3 above. If the person has been around a while (and should know better) then option 1 it is...

I dont know you but redundancy is boring. If I come to RR and see the same topics beat to death day after day it is boring. Plain and simple...

So you click on the same "boring topic" and decide to make a post thats really not that constructive. There could be another option in your list, simply go on the next "non-boring" topic and post your thoughts on it instead.

you are right, we do have the option of just moving on but but but...

I feel it is beneficial to let the poster know the topic has been discussed to death.

i must say, through my time here on RR, ive dragged that picture out maybe 5 times and posted "do a search" 5 or so times...

Not often, but I've done it a few times. I think at times it's appropriate to point out search "first" option as this is not only a "help" forum, but a "Knowledge Base" as well. Also; depends on how long they've been around the forum.....

I just posted a search reference response here

And did go back and add some links after seeing your post

Good point.....

I figure if you have the time to type a post to tell them to do a search you have time to answer the question at hand.

All I'm saying is to give one example along with the search option, that way if someone does a search for "widgets" (a topic thats been beat to death) they dont get 30 hits on widgets that simply have "Do a search" .

Well said BarracudaHockey.

I would add, If the question being asked bothers you to the point that "Do a search" is the best response. Skip it, move on.

If my or someone else's "do a search" response to a post that warrants said response bothers you, I happily suggest that you move on to the next post
