I had heard that some people have suggested that LiPo batteries are not suitable for use in a gasser (possibly due to a fire risk??).

Can anyone confirm whether it is indeed possible and/or recommended to fit a Lipo for the RX - instead of say a NiMh battery.

I have JR (8311 and 8321) servos and GY401/9254 plus a Spektrum AR9000 to drive with the battery.

Forget the Lipo, it is only a half-fix.

No matter how much power you put into the largest Lipo, it is still a time-limited power supply and, as you said, there is the fire hazard.

Instead of fiddling with Lipos, their charging and fire extinguishers , Why don't you run an on-board generator? It will provide all the electricity you need and then some. IMO nobody should fly a gasser without a generator, it is truly a safety feature, not to mention the convenience of liberating you from the need to charge the Rx battery.

Just remember to keep your Tx charged (takes a fairly long time to discharge) and you are set to go.

I checked out the generator option but there was no mounting available for the GSR260 that was commercially available.

A generator sounds like a good idea though so if I can find out how to mount it onto a GSR then it may be worth it....

There is nothing wrong with the duralite system, if you run a lipo is does of course have to be regulated, and I would recommend going at least 4000maH. The generator with a NimH is more desirable, which heli do you have?

yea

I have a 3800 fremco on mine and could not be more happy. Bezek did a mount for my vario. He 'may' be able to make something for your heli if you gave dimension on mounting. He has done this for the ASI ships and they work super.

I have the Fromeco Li-Ion set up in my Benzine and it works perfectly.
I'm tickled with it and have no issues or negative comments and I get all the flying time I need. I have yet to run it down to the "No Fly" in a flying session.
I mounted the regulator on the side of the plastic front frame and it's out of the way.

ive not tried it with a gasser or turbine but on my nitros the main advantage is that lipo dont dip in power supply as they get low also with the lipo you will have the advantage of useing 6 volts on your servos given them more speed and power (provided there 6v compatible)
the down side is you have one more link in the power supply chain which is the regulator one more link means one more thing that could go wrong.

I think lipos will do fine. I used a Fromeco setup on mine for a while with no complaints.

When I made up my generator system, I didn't have an option for the mounting of the motor/generator, but I used a brass plate and rc boat universals to get the generator connected to the start shaft. It may not be quite as pretty, but it works just fine.
