Who gives the best deal in terms of storage, speed, reliability, and price?

I'm about ready to re-set up my website(finally!), Aircamphotography.com
It is currently with GoDaddy. I need to purchase some bandwith for picture and video galleries.

Thanks,
Tip

I have two sites on Vdeck.

3,000GB of transfer per month, per site. $7.95 per month.

Fast servers, reliable, good customer service.

I've been with them for four years.

I have 15 sites hosted with Ready Hosting for the past 4 years. Only been down once or twice since then and even then only for a few hours.

I think I pay $50 per year for each site. don't recall the bandwidth but it's a few gb for sure.

Thanks guys,
Those all sound good.

William..how is the speed at Godaddy? I got their el cheepo website tonight and it has 1 low res pic and loads very slow. They probably use better/faster servers when you upgrade, but I wasn't sure so wanted to look at other options.

My other business is with Network Solutions..which I have been happy with for 10 years, but I think they are better deals than they offer.

hey
well i asked the guy when setting the account up...and he said the page will load as fast as your computer will allow it to and your internet connection...so...don't know if that answered your question

you can check a webpage i designed to check load speeds:

http://www.unifiedforunifat.com

just keep in mind you own internet connection

i've downloaded the couple movies i have on my website (under sponsorship program) to check speed and i once downloaded at around 5.5mb/s...now that's blazing

Thanks

Thanks Paul,
I'll let you know if I decide to go with http://www.westhost.com

Now on the speed issue. Is that what you guys have noticed, all servers are equal and it only depends on your download speed?

Take a look at how slow my pic on AirCamPhotography.com loads compared to the dent gallery of my Dentperfection.com website.

Do they seem to load the same speed to you? My concern is that going with the cheapest provider, they would use cheaper servers and get bogged down by massive use. I'm not necessarily looking for the lowest price, but more the best value.

hey
nope....that dent site loads much faster, i do believe that your picture does load kind of slow...

what size is it...

suggestion for you website and try this:
put the same size image (or a little smaller) but much less quality (if it's at a high quality right now) and then see the speed

i usually post lower quality images but then have a link (like click to view bigger) that will give them a much higher quality one

but..what size is that image?

Thanks

We've been with IX Webhosting for over 2 years now, and have been happy. It's never been down, has great pricing, storage, speed, and bandwidth... although the email account side I wasn't pleased with, so I switched it all over to gmail which runs through my web host (free, and I still keep my domain name as my email address).

Hey William,
I think you're right, the file is too large. 856,400 bytes. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.(that I missed!) I set that up a long time ago and didn't even think about it.

I just looked at Tim's site and the front pic is only 110104 bytes.
Nice job on the before and after mouse roll shots too.
Are you back fighting the latest fires again?

Always liked your site too, DJ. Maybe you should go into web design. (like you don't have enough to do already!)

No... our unit is back there firefighting again, but I'm sitting out this round.

For the photos on our site I usually just PS them down to the proper dimensions (somewhere around 500px wide) at 300dpi. I like some of the other sites I've seen where you have the option to view a larger photo if you like, but that's been working ok for us so far.

I'd leave it too. It's very clean and simple (KISS). I like it.

I have that setup on my dent website and the pics get slightly larger, but I think the 500 pixel width works well. Nice clean navigation where you just roll over the pic you want.

I checked out the Homestead site and it looks like they have lots of nice templates. Their introductory price seems good at $4.99 but I wonder if they charge a lot more for the extras..bandwidth, etc.
Out of curiousity, I called their toll free support line and gave up after 10 mins. on hold.

I just called IX webhosting and they connected me to a live person immediately. The girls on the main page are kind of cute too. (not that that makes any difference of course!)

hey
yea i checked out their site too...

their "best" plane is $50 and it is only 350mb of storage

for $20 more you can get 100 gigs at godaddy!

why are you still trying to make the decision
come on now

Thanks

Yeah, since I don't have the slow download problem I thought I did, maybe I'll just stay there. Their prices are good and their girls are cute too, but they look more pissed off than the other site. (Not that that has anything to do with my decision!)

Thanks,

Thanks for the options guys. I think I'm going to stick it out with Godaddy for now while I redesign my site. But if I switch, IX looks good too.

I was dredging through the Godaddy templates last night trying to come up with something I like, but I'll probably try out frontpage or look to a site with better templates.

I did a blog a while back on blogspot http://aircam.blogspot.com/ that I like the looks of better than any of the templates on Godaddy. I just need to make the layout better so you don't have to scroll down so much.

Did you guys all design your own, or ?

Thx,
Tip

Here's something interesting guys. I have been checking out some of these sites and I would put services, etc in my cart to check out but not finilize or buy the service. It looks like they now keep track of this and send you an email offering a better deal! Here's one from Godaddy: "For your convenience, we've saved your order... but only for a short time. Don't wait -- complete your order today! Please enter source code gdbbcart10 and receive an additional 10% discount on your total order!"
