Was finally going to mess around with exponential, but wanted to ask how much everyone is using and get some opinions. I spoke with one old school heli"purist" that said expo was cheating.

stupid gravity......

I don't use exponential, since I learned on the stock BCPP radio...

Tried 15% exponential at one time, but my thumbs were not trained to move that much around center stick.

Definitely an option to help NOOBs learn, but not sure how many advanced pilots use exponential.

next time you see him tell him to take that HH gyro off his heli, thats cheating too..LOL....we have all this technology available why not use it

a lot of people use around 20% expo on cyclic.....it smooths the heli response at center but you still have full throw....it also makes the stick control more linear to compensate for the curve of the servo throw

experiment and see for yourself, it definately makes a difference...try 15,then 20 then 25% if you dont like it...take it back off.....you may find it makes the heli much easier to hover and much smoother

"T-ster" started a similar Post on 11-14-07. Take a look at it here http://runryder.com/helicopter/t386...?top=1196131287

Both of my teachers were old school and expo is for sissy's. I am still trying both with (20-40) and without. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Good luck.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

I like about 25% on aileron and elevator and 15% on rudder for my BCP

I use 50% on my sport planes

There's nothing cheating about it it's just a creature comfort feature - It's like using both dual rates at once - Low around center stick and higher with more stick deflection

Cool, thanks guys. I just want to see if I can get that hover nice and solid. I mentioned the HH gyro thing to the purist and he went on and on about how he learned on an old hibro shuttle that had no gyros and how he could stand one on its nose, and do all kinds of great flying. I don't think he has flown since then though.

a little bit of expo will make your hover smooth and solid....try it you'll see a huge difference

if you have dual rates you can usually set different expo settings to compare none/with expo for a direct comparison at the flick of a switch

p.s. the HH gyro thing gets em everytime there is a comment about technology
