I crashed my rex a few weeks ago, got it rebuilt and now as soon as I get off the ground, it starts spinning. If I go left tail jut before I take of, it spins that way, if I go right it spins that way. If it is setting on the ground , I can spin the tail around and have full control, but, again, as soon as I take off...

Could I have damaged my gyro?? With the TH on, I can move it around and it seems to control the tail just fine when I am holding it.

HELP!!!

Thanks,
Paul

spin the main blades and make sure the tail is spinning the right way witht the tail blades on the right way. that was my problem once. if thats ok gyro could be reversed or tail servo gears could be bad. trail and error

Right rudder pulls the TR pushrod forward. Left Rudder pushes the TR pushrod toward the rear of the heli. If backwards, reverse the Rudder channel at the TX. If OK, leave alone.

Pick up the heli, turn the nose to the LEFT while watching the TR servo. The gyro must tell the servo to pull the pushrod forward when the nose turns to the left. If reversed, then reverse the direction at the gyro, not the transmitter. If OK, leave alone.

Looking at the right side of the heli, tail to your left, nose to your right, the TR goes Counter Clockwise (if it goes the other way, your belt is twisted the wrong way). The TR control balls on the TR grips are on the LEADING edge of the blades. The blade on the right side, going up, has its leading edge UP, the blade on the left, going down, has its leading edge DOWN.

Make sure the pulleys at each end of the belt are firmly attached to their shafts and are not slipping.

Paul i had this same problem just a few days ago. The ultimate
cause was a cracked tail gear. That would sometimes grab( on the ground) But as soon as i up'd the RPM's to fly she would just go around in circles.

First thought it was the servo - so i replaced with a 9257.

I tested it by holding the main blades and try to spin the tail blades by hand. They should not spin. If they do take a look at the
tail gear, bet you it's busted.

So i replaced the gear and test flew her( well tried at least)
Just kept going in circles still. Turns out that when i replaced the
servo i needed to rev the gyro.
Test by powering up the heli.
Flip the thro. hold just in case.

Now grab the tail and PULL it TOWARDS you, the tail pitch slider
on the shaft should move AWAY from you.

Grab the tail and PUSH it away from you, the tail pitch slider should move TOWARDS you.

IF the above is reversed then rev the Gyro leave the radio alone.

This works better if the gyro is in rate mode vs HH.
If you are in HH just wiggle the stick till the tail slider
is in the middle of the shaft.

GOOD LUCK BUD

A friend of mine had his tail drive pulley pop off of the shaft. With an aluminum pulley, this shouldn't be an issue but if you have an SA or S, it's something to look into.
I, however, would guess the reverse switch is probably wrong. Did you mount the gyro upside-down this time around?

Did you after the rebuild mount the gyro differently? From the top to under the boom or turned 180 degrease (maybe). Sounds like the gyro needs to be reversed.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

Spinning...

I have replaced the tail servo and the same happens.

I will look at the other things when I get home tonight.

I did not have to move the Gyro, it was just fine.

Thanks for the ideas.

If you replaced the tail boom when you rebuilt, make sure that you did not twist the belt the wrong way, and have the tail rotor running backwards . . . .

Hi Paul R

Where you able to determine the cause of the problem?

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

Still spins uncontrolably

I have verified that the belt is on correctly, replaced the tail servo, replaced the Gyro, checked the gears and it is still spinning. Holding it in the air and moving the tail side to side, it does what it is supposed to do...

Is there any way that the receiver could have been damaged in the crash and it is causing the issue??

I want to go FLY!!! Now that the weather is decent.

HELP!!

Thanks for the input so far.

When you replaced the tail servo, you may have reversed the servo horn (Point yp instead of down, or vice-versus). If this is the case, reverse the gyro and the rudder direction to correct the issue. There are not many things that can cause this!

Sounds like the gyro is reversed. You take off and as soon as the heli starts to drift the gyro tries to make a correction but since it is set the wrong way it's putting in the wrong correction so starts to spin very fast as it keeps putting more and more of the wrong correction in.

Paul- sorry to hear that you still have this problem. I re-read your post and from what you describe this should be a reversed servo problem, like the others above have mentioned.
do the push pull tail test. if u pull the tail towards u the slider
should move away from you. and if you push the tail away from you the slider should move towards you.

on the ground with really no load it behaves ok. I think this happens because there's no load on the gyro to correct against.
if you right stick she spins right and if you left stick she spins left no stop.. IS THIS STILL THE ISSUE?

I would start from scratch again with the tail setup. go get tail setup, and gyro101 from finless vidoes and go thru the entire thing again. Step by step.

GOOD LUCK. keep us posted.

Yes, this is still the issue. It's very frustrating!

Looks like I need to start from Scratch again!!

Paul,

Reverse the gyro! The symptoms that you are referencing can ONLY be a reversed gyro!
