I'm not a fan of TTs on small helis either as like most of us who have actual experience with them know how finicky weak and prone to failure they are at this small size - However I'm not completely shut off to the idea that someone could come up with a successful design these days - In fact the Duzis are some very crafty fellows who are indeed actually developing a 450 TT heli with an interesting design that should be available very soon

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t381343p1/

I'd just wait a bit and see how this one fairs because if the Duzis can't pull it off then I wouldn't hold much hope for anyone else having much success either

Yes the duzi has a uniqe transmission drive, completely different from anything else. I feel that model very well may be very nice and likely fly very good, only parts support and avaialbilty will be interesting. The heli you link to is also a full 50mm larger in disc size as well the boom is a full 3.5 mm larger in diamter, therefore not a comparable heli imho, the R5 will be between the 450 rex and the 500 rex in size comparison. As well if you look through this thread you show in detail you will notice the power systems and lipos etc also differ due to the size difference.

In your posts it seems you're going on the assumption that align would use the exact same design as some old outdated heli (even if at some point in the past the old outdated heli was competition against some version of trex) Why do you think that? I doubt the duzi people have a monopoly on unique designs. I imagine if, and a big if here, align came out with a TT for the 450 it would work regardless of the way the former competition to the trex worked. Saying it wouldn't work is absolutely speculation no matter how many micro helis you've had or how much graphing you've done. People built the pyramids, I'm sure someone can come up with a tt that works for a 450.

kingair I am not sure what it is you do not understand. I did not say they would copy a design from another heli, where the heck is this assumption? You keep saying I am making assumptions and speculations and not speculating dude, I said they were not going to do it and you are making a TT sound much more complicated than it is to be honest. Did you not read the part about Align not doing it? Align did not build the Pyramids, the Egyptions did. And hey I'm done with this thread you have fun with the TT that will never be built for the t-rex by Align, cheers.

Petroleum Thrown F$%#ing Everywhere.

Boggles my mind that people would put lube on a part that is NOT supposed to slip.

I bet Align could retrofit a larger boom and associated hardware onto the 450 to allow TT. It wouldnt be the magic bullet solution, still a lot of other issues to work out but it would be a good starting point.

That could also alter the balance significantly though... hhmmm

Nope but it sure does cut down on the friction coefficient on the belt. This helps when those itty bitty tiny teeth on the belt are trying to mesh with those itty bitty tiney teeth on the pulley's...

I experimented with lubes at one point. I used triflow, 3-in-1 oil, spray silicone, and white lithium grease. All worked to one degree or another. I tested it by putting on a brand new unlubed belt. I then spooled the heli up to idle1 at 3200rpm and hit throttle hold (0%). The blades took about 16-17 seconds to spool down to a stop. I then applied lubes and the spool down times increased to 20-25 seconds.

Lube seemed to help and since its a timing system with teeth, lube won't cause the belt to slip like if you lubed a V-Belt...

Try it and time your spool downs...

3Dx - I would be very interested. It's not fun when your belt breaks on your 450 at over 100ft with camera gear on it

I would if it is not too delicate and reliable. I have seen the 600 TT and they are very delicate. I am just tired of belts breaking or slipping. The gates slips and frays. you need to run it tight. The mavrikks you can run nice and loose, but like to break in flight. The align..forget about it.

This thread is so funny to read through now that helis are out in the 450 size with a TT and Align is coming out with the 450 V3 shortly. So many were so sure and so vocal that it just couldn't happen on a 450 sized heli only one short year ago. Boy these helis have come a long way. Can't wait to get my hands on a V3

Yup they proved me wrong, technology has come a long ways especially in materials for sure. Gotta man up and say I was wrong for sure.

But... It took CY Rave to pave the way far before Align would step up and try one for their 450 that is for sure.
